Descending Alpamayo"AJ" rapelling off the summit ridge of Alpamayo down the southwest face after a successful ascent in July 2003. Our footprints can be seen on the glacier below. Two weeks after this photo was taken, a huge serac avalanche killed 8 people on this route.

Alpamayo SW Face, Italian RouteView of Alpamayo high camp with our path up the southwest face marked. We believe this was the "Italian route", being just left of the better-known Ferrari route (which was blocked by a wide schrund).

In Memoriam of GallenOne of my friends was sick when we're climbing to the Alpamayo's Camp 1... Before the snow, between the rocks we prepare a vivac for him, other friend and me. He recovered so quick, and we were lucky with the sunset... was amazing... Was the sunset of 4th august 2002.
Just in two seconds I took this pic... just two seconds, but enough to think in the best mountain photographer of the world, Gallen Rowell (he died august 11, 2002). The cover of his book Mountains of light is a cloud and two rocks in the shadow... When I look this pic I remember him, his pics, his wonderful pics... I took this pic one week before he died... a sign???
In Memoriam, Gallen.... Thank you for all your work
