Dark Star is similar Sun Ribbon Arete, another route on Temple Crag. Both routes have short crux sections with long sections of low fith class and fourth class climbing.

Adan Martinez climbing the first pitch on Dark Star. The first pitch is the technical crux -- thin 5.10b first thing in the morning. Up above is an unprotected 5.8 chimney but in between there's a lot of low fifth class and fourth class. But it is a lot of terrain to cover in a day.

This is a sunset view from Vanishing Point located in the Sentinal Creek area. From here, you also get great views of the West Face of Sentinal.

Certainly one of my all time Tuolumne Meadows favorites - the Third Pillar of Dana. Makes for a great day of hiking and climbing.

I feel lucky to live just 3.5 hours from one of the most awesome places on the planet. That's why I'm smiling.

Sam Valdez and I made an ascent of Mt. Whitney in July 1997. During the climb, a snowstorm kicked in and when we summited, there was a whiteout. Descending was out of the question. We spent a cold night in the summit hut instead.
