Hey, I was here first dammit!

Average Rating = 1.00/5 Hey, I was here first dammit!

This is Ted Burkey, a phenomenal climber that instantly became the trip leader. This was taken about 20 feet off the ground, while he was leading this very fun & exposed route. To get this picture, I scrambled up the first section of Flaming Piss, that led to a huge cave-like ledge, and waited for him to get into frame. Camera is a Nikon D50.

Pine Mountain crag

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Pine Mountain crag

The crag was very small, and barely worth the 4mi RT hike to get to it, but since there's nothing else in the area, I simply had to make do... Besides, it's December!

No pain, no gain!

Average Rating = 3.54/5 No pain, no gain!

This is an extremely painful stemming route on DT, that has a very thin left edge to smear. At one point, there is a 12"-16" section where the left edge is nearly gone, so after several unsuccessful attempts to get past it, I had to switch into a funky position where both hands were on the left and both feet were on the right, in order to get my feet past the crux. My hips hurt like hell for 3 days following this climb!

A great day on The Meadows!

Average Rating = 3.00/5 A great day on The Meadows!

8-1-04 || I've just reached the 3rd traverse bolt, on the 1st pitch of The Meadows, and was expressing my gratitude to my partner for dragging me on this God forsaken slab!

Trad Gear

Average Rating = 3.40/5 Trad Gear

I was just having fun with b/w and color overlays, to create a neat gear shot.

The Dark Side Of Climbers

Average Rating = 3.00/5 The Dark Side Of Climbers

This sillouhette was taken just as the sun moved around the corner, providing only backlight, on an unknown climber.

Southern Exposure

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Southern Exposure

I took this picture after being lowerd down roughly 10 feet from the top of the Sentinel. The Mississippi river framed up beautifully between the opposing rock faces.

Sinking Creek

Average Rating = 3.58/5 Sinking Creek

Sinking Creek is actually just outside the small town of Eminence, Missouri. This is a privately owned geological wonder, that while it looks like a spring that is flowing from a cave, it isn't. It's actually a freeflowing stream that has carved its way through the rock, and tunnels through for a couple hundred feet... This image shows the downstream side of the rockface.

Summit at 3:30am

Average Rating = 2.60/5 Summit at 3:30am

This photo was taken during OozeFest 2.0 when "rockartist43" and myself set out to do the Via at 12:15am , under a full moon, during blizzard-like conditions, with 60-70mph winds and sub-zero windchills. The conditions were so bad, that we nearly turned back several times, and especially when we hit the Notch. Reaching the summit seemed like an eternity, but we actually did it in just over 3.5 hours in these conditions. Normally it takes roughly an hour or so. ~ Photo by rockartist43.

Friction Sucks!

Average Rating = 3.38/5 Friction Sucks!

This was taken 5-9-04. As much as I hate friction climbs, it was a very fun and "pumpy" climb, until hitting the 2nd crux at the 4th bolt. After several attempts, I bailed out once I could no longer feel my fingers tips.

Crack Thrills!

Average Rating = 2.86/5 Crack Thrills!

This was my first 5.7 trad lead, and while it looks like there are bomber holds everywhere, there really aren't. The crack is very deep, but rounds out on the inside, making placements difficult, and the face is primarily rounded off slopers slopers.

Lovely Arete

Average Rating = 3.29/5 Lovely Arete

This is a very fun climb, until just past the first bolt (which is on the left edge, at my waist), that's when the real work kicks in on this beautiful 11a sandstone. It's far beyond my capabilities, but I simply had to try it anyway!
