The King Swing - First Attempts

Average Rating = 3.33/5 The King Swing - First Attempts

Aaron Reite attempts the King Swing pendulum on The Nose. After several swings, he finds that he must lower out even further before he can get around the arete to the second crack. (Note that this is the "Emperor Swing" variation. The old piton in the first crack was gone, and we thought this would be more "fun" than relying on a few tiny brass offsets.) The photos were taken with a 35mm SLR attached to a spotting scope, and were stitched together by me, with minimal photoshoppage. You can see more at will.is-a-geek.org

The King Swing - Barely made it!

Average Rating = 3.12/5 The King Swing - Barely made it!

Aaron Reite successfully pulls off the King Swing pendulum on The Nose. He took six or seven swings total, lowering out a little more between each one. When he finally did get it, he just barely got his arms around the arete, then clawed his way around to the second crack.

This is a shot of my buddy Gavin jugging our fixed line to Sickle ledge. It felt a little weird jugging up four ropes tied together.

El Cap Standing Tall

Average Rating = 3.50/5 El Cap Standing Tall

I know it's been taken many times before me, and most likely many times after, but the views of El Cap and the Cathedrals got to me ever time we looped around the park. It was so inspiring to simply view the Captain in person.

High on the Nose

Average Rating = 3.00/5 High on the Nose

Pictured are Bryce, Swillin' Bear, and my blue foot. It was the last pitch, 7 a.m. and I was going to have to go to work in 5 short hours. The highlight of the route was definitely spooning Dave on Camp VI, brrrr.

Me on the belay before the Great Roof. The picture was taken by Aaron Wilson, we were waiting for TimmiTim to finish leading the Great Roof, and it took a while but it was a sunny day and we knew at that point we were going to summit.
