The Stronghold from SW

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The Stronghold from SW

This view is from the SW, after coming off the approach to Warpath, among others. Late afternoon, amazing light and lots of damn mosquitos. This place is almost worth getting the Malaria.

This is a good route to start your day at the jailhouse, easy and full of fun moves - crack, chimney, ledge - the whole buffet. mel_climbs belays metrozen, photo by CAG.

The granite giveth...

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The granite giveth...

If you start your day with petty theft, you've got to finish it with the punishment... which in this case is pure bliss with a side of pain.

Or maybe the fourth. Can't recall, but fun as hell. Finishes with big undercling/fist jam, you decide!

The Ruins - from half way to Weathertop

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The Ruins - from half way to Weathertop

Sometimes a wrong turn yields the better view. That's Jane sitting there, just left of center. Jane is cool. The climber is on the other side of the tree, between the pale spot and the big orange stain. I don't know if that guy is cool or not.

Average Rating = 3.25/5 Yes, I has been. And I is did, too.

Rob thinks the right way might be better than .12. Who am I to argue, the photo is the sum total of my best effort. Rob sent it using the arete, but the pics were too dark. It's a gutsy off-line move requiring plenty of slack.

A fun laybacky .10 with touchy toes and crimpy crimps. What other kind are there?

Me just prior to failing the crux for the last time that day. True to the name, I returned and finished it. Good climb. Aaron Stover belayed and gave beta. Thanks, buddy.

Really. He was just stopping through Tucson. He found us at Le Buzz, and left before the pie was served. Good guy.

A hunger for something...

Average Rating = 3.00/5 A hunger for something...

This funky little overhang is early on the route. I found it to be the crux, probably a 9+ combination. Route progresses to a long crimpy run. Photo by metrozen.

Does anybody know these guys?

Average Rating = 2.33/5 Does anybody know these guys?

I shot this from Main Wall, across the canyon, 12/31/2004. I don't know the climbers or the route (Eclipse?), just glad for the opportunity to observe some kick butt climbing and I wanted to post this shot to glean a little more info from any other Southern Arizona climbers. If the fellas in this photo are you or your friends, please let me know! -metrozen

Rob Stevens in a jam

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Rob Stevens in a jam

I am not sure the name of this route - it is a steep down hike from the parking area near the top of the ski lift. Starts with a big slanted chimney, pretty tight and filthy. This is the bottom of a sudden waterfall when the rain hits. Stay away if you think it might... Rob is setting protection on something unseen in this photo, by metrozen.

View from the seat

Average Rating = 2.40/5 View from the seat

The hike to this specatacular point gains a lot of altitude on a rugged and very old trail, only a couple miles long. It weaves up the side of the mountain, at times using ancient Incan steps, and finally through a tight boulder heap at the top. The ruined city of Macchu Picchu lies below with its terraced crops dropping suddenly to the roiling Urubamba. 8k meter peaks in the distance. Photo taken in June 2000, clearly before I considered myself a climber. Just look at those flimsy forearms.

Taken at the trailhead to La Milagrosa canyon, on the way out after a day of climbing. Great way to end the year! The photo does no justice to the real thing, but you get the idea anyway...
