Description:

This is a very popular alpine route. You can see the route from Anchorage as a long, continuous line of snow and ice that end on the East Ridge. From head-on, it appears quite steep, but it actually only reaches about 45 degrees in a couple of spots. Walk or ski in on the Powerline Pass Trail from the Glen Alps Trailhead until you are just under the bottom of the couloir.

Early in the season, it is usually just snow, and has actually been skied! Later in the year, it turns into perfect neve, and then into a single sheet of water ice as winter hits. With a 165 foot rope, it can be as long as ten pitches, with most belays in the moat. Once on the ridge, the rope can be put away and you can contour around the south side of the summit pyramid to the top.
