Description:
From the guide: "Solomon's Arrow is the prominent needle rising on the NW side of the Wheeler Peak Cirque, about 2/3 mile SW of the Bristlecone Grove. The needle can easily be seen on the right side of the Wheeler Cirque as viewed from Mather Overlook. To reach the needle, take the "Bristlecones/Icefield Trail" from the Wheeler Peak Campground. When the "End of Maintained Trail" sign is reached, continue either up or to the right and alongside the rock glacier, until you can head up the steep slope to the left of the needle (this slope is scree after mid-june most years) The route begins in the notch between the needle and the wall of the cirque. Climb up this northern face for about 40', then traverse right onto the western face and continue up for about another 40' until you can come back over the edge of the northern face. Climb up this edge until you reach a 9' high left facing book. Climb the book to a ledge at the base of a broad crack that runs all the way through the formation. Climb this crack and the short face above to reach the summit. The rock in this route is better than will be found on most of the routes in the cirque but it is still dangerously loose in places. Take at least a 12' sling for the rappel, which also requires two 165' ropes."
