Description:

Adirondack Rock is the authoritative source on Bald Mountain, and it gives "Branches" four stars and a protection rating of PG. Route starts 20' right of the "boulder cave" where a small dirt ledge has been cleared out. Climb a flake to a small bulging ceiling, over the ceiling via a small crack, then up to a manky old piton, and up a runout section to the belay station (two slings on a flake, with two carabiners). Up the fingercrack to easier terrain. Fixed anchor at the top.

Descent Options:

Simple rappel from the top anchor back to the belay station, then down to the ground. Or hike over to the fire tower and impress everyone with your scars, chalky fingers and pretty rock climbing gear. Then take the trail down and allllll the way around.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect first multipitch climb

Branches is a great place to try multipitch trad for the first time. Decent protection (somewhat run-out after that manky piton), lots of exposure, a few fun moves, and a great view at the top especially if you hike over to the fire tower.
