Hi All-

I am an American living in Australia at the moment. After recently climbing one of Barber's FFA's at Arapiles, I was inspired to construct a tick list consisting of all the climbs he did in his whirlwind tour of OZ (Many of which were FFA's). Many of his climbs are considered to be inspiring, bold and solid at the grade. Really motivational!

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of these climbs which exists out there or know how to get in touch with Mr. Barber?

Also, I am keen to track down a copy of his Autobiography and the film "Uncommon Ground". Any hints or ideas where I might be able to find these would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks heaps in advance!

JBM

The book:

I'd doubt such list exists. You'll have to construct it yourself.

I left Australia in January 1975 just a couple of months before Mr. Barber's visit. During a 6-week spree he climbed on 29 cliffs in 21 different areas of six States doing approximately 100 routes.

His visit was most significant in the quality and style of ascents and the requested list is below. Most "free" ascents involved the elimination of one resting piece.

It should be noted a man is more than the sum of difficult ascents and although Henry's ability really impressed the locals, his abrasive and obsessive ego at the time was not universally appreciated. More of this can be glimpsed in Rob's book "The Breach".
