I had to give up climbing about 6 years ago because of arthritis in my toes. I held on to my gear thinking my sons might want it, but they don't, so i want to get rid of it. I had a 4 year old rope in excellent condition that had only been used for toproping. It is now 10 years old.

Did it degrade beyond use, or is it still as good as when I last used it?

There are differing opinions on this, but generally 10 years is the cut off. I don't have it to hand but there are pretty dope rug patterns that you can weave it into to have a wee memory of fun you had with the rope and a conversation piece.

Oh hey y'all I am back!! And by back, let's be clear, I haven't been climbing in any true sense of the word in years...but somehow I'm on this forum again. With the same old climbing rope question. Here are the gruesome details:

Mammut 70m rope, purchased in 2012, used a handful of times after purchase on sport climbs, washed once after that (and dried thoroughly outside in Colorado, based on instructions I probably got here), has been sitting in garage pretty much since 2012.

Still usable? Should I wash it again due to the dust it has likely accumulated?
