About Condamine Gorge:
| The Condamine Gorge is at the headwaters of the Condamine river. The Gorge is East of Killarney and runs east west. The cliffs run for perhaps 6 to 10 k`s on both sides of the gorge. There is a height difference from the lip of the gorge to the floor of around a thousand feet but the actual clifflines can be up to 200 metres. The river usually runs year round and the road through the gorge crosses the river about 12 times. This is a dry weather access only. Most of the cliffs are on private land and care should be taken not to get landowners offside. There is a national park which sits atop Acacia Plateau and contains some of the cliffs close to the western end of the gorge. Keep your ear out for Browns Lyre birds, these mimics can imitate absolutely any sound. There is much development to be done in this spectacular gorge so new routeing is available to all. |
