Les Vosges is the obvious massid west of Mulhouse and Strasbourg and the Rhine River, along the German border. The climbing is mainly on sandstone (lower elevations on the steep eastern side) or on magmatic rocks (higher elevations). The western side is not very steep and offers seldom climbing areas. The highest point is called Le Grand Ballon (1424 m). |
