About Ettringen - Ettringer Lay:

A very old quarry area in the vulkanpark area of the Eifel, this place is a trad climber´s paradise as well as sportsclimbing heaven. it´s located in a hole that goes on either side of the highway between Ettringen and Mayen, climbing is for the most part cracks, dyhedrals and aretes, although there is some face climbing as well (very hard)

most routes have bolts, but many of them only have a few and require the placement of pro to avoid long runouts and falls on edges that can be every sharp. routes are up to 23 meters high and the difficulty of the routes goes anywhere between 5 and 10 (UIAA)

Can be too hot in summer being that the area is nothing more than a large hole, winter can be too cold and wet (snow included) due to the elevation and the Eifel being close by, as an alternative go to the Kottenheim area no more than 10 minutes drive away. The only exception on this is the mainwall where the sun shines brightly in the winter. It can be a suprising day out and the friction is good!
