Get off the 15 freeway at Nichols Road.
Head East (away from AM-PM).
When the paved road turns right, take the dirt road going straight/slightly left (El Toro Road).
Stay on this for a few miles until you get to a dirt road on the right marked by a few poles with red ribbon on them (just past the Lone Palm Ranch).
Follow this road right then back left as it veers around and over the hills. You'll see the boulders by now. Keep going until a few large roadside boulders can be seen on the left side of the road just after a left hand road leaves the main one (they usually have chalk on them). This is the main area that has seen development.
I'm working on a rough overview guide, but most of this stuff I did back in '98-'01 so I'm having to make some trips back out there to shoot photos and fact check.
If you want more info, contact me once you've been. It will be easier then to direct you to certain areas/boulders.
