This historic site is located near the beginning of the Appalachian Trail. The boulders are located at and on trails leading to the peak of Blood Mountain. Blood Mountain is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia at 4,461 There are two groups of boulders halfway up from the Byron Reece trailhead (around a mile of steep hiking). Rock here is fine grit with good friction, though it needs to be cleaned. Problems range from V0-V5 or so in this area. Another half mile of steep hiking brings you to an amazing overhang. It averages around 50 degrees from verticle with problems ranging from V1-Vhard. Rock is rather crystaline and has layers of many different types (shale, quartz, sandstone, ect). Near the top you will begin to cross large rock slabs. Good boulders at the top are past the Shelter and there are plenty to explore. Some of the sidetrails off the AT are also likely to hold some good rock with a little searching.
