About Allenspur:

49 routes (mostly sport/bolted) on good quality Bighorn Dolomite. Access to area recently (Jan. '05) gained through permanent easement granted to the Southwest Montana Climber's Coalition.
Nearest town or city: Livingston
Directions:
  • Drive 5 miles South of Livingston on US 89
  • Turn East onto MT 540 (East River Road) and cross the Yellowstone River.
  • Park at the Carter’s Bridge fishing access, (see map) not on East River Road where the trail turns up towards the crag.
  • From the Carter Bridge Fishing Access Site, walk east and south down East River Road for 250 yards.
  • Turn east and follow the climbers trail up to the base of Boundary Crag.
  • DO NOT TRESPASS ONTO ANY OTHER PORTION OF THE PRIVATE PROPERTY!
    The trail is for foot traffic only. No motorized vehicles or bicycles are permitted.
    Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

    For the old approach follow these directions:

    Park at Carter Bridge. Follow a dirt road through an open gate downriver 500' until a culvert is crossed. Look for sign marking trail through meadow and proceed until a road is encountered. CROSS ROAD at small "climber's trail sign , follow cairns and well used trail uphill until it traverses South towards crags. Drop down trail into gully until the end of the Main Crag is reached. Stay on trail. DO NOT TRESPASS ONTO PRIVATE LAND AT ANY TIME. The conditions of this easement trail are very specific and must not be compromised under any circumstance !!!

Access Issues: New access to Allenspur has just been secured on a trial basis. We are now allowed to access the crags the short direction. However, please be VERY courteous of the Land Owners wishes. Stay on the trail! Let's make them happy that they are allowing us to cross their land!
