About La Madre- North:

La Madre is composed of two distinct areas of climbing. The first is the Northern section, located just off SR 157 in the bands of limestone on the south side of the road. The northern section is also home to the harder climbs.

Access: Currently, there are no access issues with La Madre North, although construction is beginning on the Mt. Charleston Portal area, which may, in the future affect access. You'll want either a 2wd with high clearance or a 4wd vehicle to access these areas. Note: This area is a Wilderness Study Area, which means no bolting!

When to climb: The area is mostly north facing, but sits at the same elevation as the Las Vegas area, so its going to be a bit hot in the summer. Fall and Spring are probably your best bets.

Classics: Dreamland, Ashes to Ashes, Shell Shocked

Nearest town or city: Las Vegas
Directions: This area is accessed by heading out of town northbound on the 95 to the SR 157 turnoff (Mt. Charleston). From here, drive almost 7 miles to a dirt turnoff on your left. Follow this to a 'T' junction (set odometer) and continue south, then east on this into a wash. The Test Site is at 1.8 miles, Area 51 is at 2.0, Dreamland is at 2.5. All are up a gully/trail on the south side of the wash.
