About Sitting Bull Falls:
Only a handful of routes, but every one is classic and the rock is very high quality. You can camp for free just outside of the park gates, which open from 8:30 to 6:00 (they really do want you out by 6:00, and will make an issue out of it if you aren't). Parking is 5$, or you can walk in. There's also swimming here, though the water may be cold. DANGER: The bee hive on the Rose Bud Wall has been found to contain KILLER BEES! Hive activity seems to depend a lot on temperature. Avoid Firewater and the Brit Route when the buzz is on is a good practice. Getting stung could result in a swarmming of the bees, so leaving the area immediately is recommended! A sting injects you with a pheremone that marks your as a target and alerts the hive to attack! |

Directions: | Take 285 north from Carlsbad about 10 miles, and take a left on 137. Eventually you'll see a sign for a right turn to go to Sitting Bull. Walk up the main paved trail and just before you leave the picnic area look for a well established trail to your right that climbs to the top of the falls. About 1/8 mile up where it levels off, some good trail branch off to the right to access the main crag. You can see the primary climbing will during you drive into the parking lot. |
