The climbing gym on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus began as a humble operation for just a handful of students. Originally opened in 1984 exclusively for the RIT community, the gym saw modest development for roughly 20 years. Then in 2005 the Red Barn Climbing gym was established and major development began.

Now opened to both the RIT community and the general public*, the Red Barn Climbing gym has quickly become the premier indoor facility not only in the greater Rochester area, but Western New York as well. The Barn houses extensive bouldering areas which include: several caves, a huge top-out boulder, and several training areas. At any given time there are at least 75 taped problems ranging from V0-V12. There is also a 32ft high top-roping wall used primarily for belay instruction and beginner roped climbing.

The Red Barn Climbing gym is open Monday through Friday, from 5-10pm and Saturday and Sunday, from 1-6pm when RIT classes are in session. You can access this information at http://www.rit.edu/calendar. We are closed during exam weeks and breaks. During the winter months only the downstairs bouldering areas are open, so dress warmly.

(Memberships amounts are per 10 week period. They are pro-rated after the second week of the quarter.)

*Because this facility is part of RIT, we ask that all climbers be at least 18 years of age.
