About Bauer Rock (South Mountain):
| Enough bouldering and short topropes to keep most mortals busy for several days, At least!! Some very high quality here. The rock is like a coarse gritstone with excelent friction quality, its also generally very solid, and fragile looking features can be very strong. Cracks and flakes seem to come from no where and provide climbing on beautifully sculpted surfaces. The main or central pile of boulders "Bauer Rock" are heavily used by partiers and so are trashed, but do have some excellent short top ropes and good bouldering on them. There are all the others (actually where all the best bouldering is, about eight or so large to medium size boulders) are in good to excellent condition. Individual route descriptions are from the perspective of facing uphill towards the main faces of the boulders because they usually face downhill. The sunrise to sunset park hours are strictly enforced!! If its dark and your back there expect to be "interviewed" by Lower Saucon's finest. |

| Directions: | From rt.309 take Emmaus Ave. exit and head east to South Fourth St.(about ten or fifteen minutes, Dunkin Doughnuts on the corner) turn right (south) and at the top of the hill turn left at the light, this is East Rock Road, drive for about a mile , park on right at the sign for Big Rock Park (small pull off). Follow trail/access road past fenced in towers. Trail then breaks off into a Y. Easier boulders are to the left but be prepared to bushwack. |
