About Imbabura:

Imbabura is a 4000+ meter extinct volcano near the town of Ibarra north of Quito. It is a very long hike to a fun scramble along the crater rim. The views of the countryside are beautiful. This is a good acclimatization hike for people interested in the higher 5000 meters peaks.
Nearest town or city: Ibarra
Directions: Take a bus to Ibarra from Quito's Terminal Terrestre. Take either another bus or a taxi to the village of La Esperanza high on the slopes of Imbabura. There is a nice hostel called Casa Aida, and Imbabura can be climbed in a long day from the front door by the physically very fit.
