August 2012 – After last year’s successful event premiere in Austria’s Ötztal valley, adidas ROCKSTARS – an invitational contest for the world’s best bouldering athletes – now moves to Stuttgart, the capital of the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The second edition of the international climbing event takes place in the famous Porsche-Arena on the 10th and 11th of August, 2012.

"After our successful event premiere 2011 in the AREA 47 in Tirol, we wanted to reach a bigger audience with our event this year. Stuttgart is a true sports city in an attractive region with more than 2.5 million inhabitants. Numerous world championships and sport events have already taken place in this metropolis", says Axel Burkhardt, head of adidas Global Sports Marketing for Olympic Sports, Cycling and Outdoor. „Furthermore, countless climbing fans and outdoor enthusiasts are living in the urban catchment of Baden-Württemberg’s state capital. The climbing centre of the German Alpine Club Stuttgart is one of the largest worldwide. This is exactly the kind of sports-minded audience we would like to reach. And with one of the most modern sports arenas Europe has to offer, we have found a venue that leaves nothing to be desired.”

Andreas Kroll, director of the in.Stuttgart Events llc, is looking forward to the stars of the international bouldering community. “A climbing event in the Porsche-Arena is a real novelty. This will certainly be a special sporting challenge for the athletes but also for our arena staff.”

The Porsche-Arena – a perfect hall for sports events

Stuttgart’s Porsche-Arena opened in May 2006 celebrating its premiere with the German live TV show ‘Verstehen Sie Spaß?’. The flexibility of the impressive hall knows virtually no limits thanks to its short changeover times. The Porsche-Arena was a cauldron for the Handball World Championship matches. It’s where women tennis players have had to play on ice. Obviously not directly, but the permanently installed frozen surface makes it easy to stage ice hockey matches and shows like Holiday on Ice. The venue holds up to 7,500 spectators and thanks to its steep grandstands the audience can enjoy a great atmosphere, perfect visibility and is always close to the action.
