burnsiebitch, you've been to Scotland?
How'd you find it, and what "bens" did you do?

Did my MSc at Edinburgh; took it part-time and was there for two years.

Didn't really climb much in terms bens, though I did do a climb up in Glen Coe once. I forget the name, however. My outdoor climbing in Scotland mainly included Rosyth Quarry, Trappain Law, and a place on the other side of the Forth, right on the Forth that is somewhat under the bridge. I forget it's name as well (those short sea cliffs). However, I spent A LOT of time at Alien Rock in Leith.

As for Scotland itself, it may have been the best two years of my life. Edinburgh is an absolutely fantastic city. Not sure if it is a bias, but I think it's one of the most fun cities in Europe. The overall bar scene, the festival(s), Hogmany, etc, just a fun town all around. I was there when the Parliament opened and was still convened up the Royal Mile in Milnes Court (in the basement of the Church of Scotland). That was a helluva party.

Also took two highland trips that I really enjoyed. Was very surprised by the beach all the way up in Tongue. It was huge and the water there was damn near tropical. Really surprised there's not much going on for tourists up there. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, some of my closest friends are from there, and it's where I learned to climb. Good memories in all (well, except those that are now vanished as a result of living too close to the Pear Tree and the old location of the Woolpack - around the corner from the PT, across the street from the parking lot to Teviot Place). Can't wait to go back someday. Even if for a weekend, I'd love to take the train to Berwick again and just sit on the beach, and relax with a bottle of Irn Bru to cure the previous night's activities.
