That's Right boys and girls, for all those who missed it whilst busy climbing or otherwise engaged in life, Uncle Sam wants your money!! Today is the day. Post offices are open till mignight and guarantee today's postmark on anything recieved. Get on it all you procrastinators!!! For those of you already done a great time can be had by getting all liquored up and heading to the post office to riducule those who are up at midnight doing taxes. It's especially sweet if you get one or two that are merely filing EXTENSIONS and didn't do it till now. Have at it!!! So we'll keep the pots full of the strong stuff for all you "Johnny-come-lately's" but be prepared for a great whopping chorus of "Doh!!!" Have fun!!!

dog: walked and peaceful at home man: In the Dominican Republic... home soon! coffee: brewing work: in early, plenty to do life: moving right along family: happy and healthy taxes: DONE! And my $400 refund already received  I know I complain a lot about making next to nothing for a salary - tax time is about the only time I benefit from working for a non-profit ;)

Ah the joy of taxes. Luckily for me, I don't in a country with a convoluted taxation system full of self-assessment and pitfalls. No, I live in a country where the government simply takes an apparently arbitrary and highly imaginative sum of money away from me whenever they feel like it and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. Hang on, I think I need an espresso. :?

Morning Abi, Wife got the taxes done a couple weeks ago. Advantage of having a wife that knows finances! I'm not that smart! Visiting the doc today for the arm, may be in a cast before the end of the day. Not getting any better but not any worse, just the same constant pain. We'll see what happens. May put a real bummer on climbing for a while. Weather is absolutely beautiful down the way; sunny and in the low 80's with light breeze. I'll take a nice Cafe Latte to start the day and hold the whipped cream. Coach

Morning Abi, Coach, Trad. Myself I pay someone to do mine. Too convoluted with my multi family home which is essentially a small bussiness, a couple of trusts I recieve dividends on ( for a grand total of about $300 a year, which I give to my mother anyway) and a bunch of other shnot. Plus side I got $4200 back this year and already have both refund checks in hand. :D

Good side of things: did my taxes, paid 50 bucks for some nice lady who works out of her basement to file them for me, ended up getting a 1200 dollar return and actually not owing anything to the crappy state of Pennsylvania for once (usually I owe $1....sheesh) Bad side of things: already spent all the money and still need more. Well I guess that's because I've been buying things I don't 'need'. Heh. Bad Kim, bad. K.

Morning Kimmy. I'm a bit less hormonal today you'll be glad to hear, can't speak for greenie. So could someone fill me in on roughly how this tax thing works then? We just get a proportion of our income taken out of our monthly paycheck and that's it.

yeah, I don't pay anyone to do mine for such a little refund and I don't itemize deductions - I don't have any money to give to anything so I have no deductions... ;) I do get to do mine free on-line, though, since my income is so small! That's a nice benefit too!

morning everyone- boo hoo for britta, I owe this year - marshall84 you are right, the house interest deduction is nice, until interest rates go down and you refinance twice in one year - ouch, downward goes the deduction - but I'd rather have the money in my savings account and not the government's! (Lord knows what they do with it there! ) Happy day for all you getting returns - :D - kind of like Christmas. Have fun with it! Sometime's I'd rather do it the European way - just take the money and dispense with all the year end paperwork. You're lucky tradman!

Did my taxes 1st week of feb. But, I'm a student with 2 jobs so all i have to file is a 1040EZ. EZ meaning simple enough a trained monkey could do it in about 10 minutes. I'm dreading doing a real 1040. coylec

After waiting until the very last minute last year, I decided to git on the stick and get them done early. Taxes have been done since mid-February. I think I got totally ripped off, but... *shrug* Probably my own damned fault. At least I didn't owe anyone; first time in my life that's been the case. Woohoo! Paid for few "necessary" climbing items, so it's all good. 20% off store-wide at EMS tonight... *drool* T

In reply to: So could someone fill me in on roughly how this tax thing works then? We just get a proportion of our income taken out of our monthly paycheck and that's it. Let's see...first they take money out of your paycheck. Then if you get money from something else they expect you to pay taxes on that too. Then at the end of the year they give you a chance to basically explain why you should get some of that money back. Here's the rub. If you don't really explain it well enough then you wind up paying more. and if your don't do things exactly the way they want it done. They call you in, ream you worse than a proctologist, and fine you more than you would have owed in the first place. That's it in a nutshell. :?

trad, it's really weird and hard to explain, but basically people who get married, own a house, donate to charities etc. get 'tax breaks' - the gov't takes a certain amount of your income based on your 'deductions'. Usually they don't take enough and you owe money on tax day, or they take too much and you get money back. Why I have no idea ;)

You know why they call it a 1040... For every $50 bucks you make...you keep $10 and the IRS takes $40.

Taxes are done and in, man. Money we wanted to "put away", but like many others, we realized owning a home doesn't afford such a luxury. Taxes are done and in and almost gone. Well, between my wife's medical issues, borrowing against an investment and not taking enough taxes out, buying a home and not being able to claim the taxes (we bought it at the end of the year so the previous homeowner got to claim that) we thought we would owe. Well, we didn't and we got close to a "G" (no, not some idiot wearing his baggy pants around his knees). You know what's nice? I still have a few nickles left to buy a coffee house coffee. SERVE ME UP!

I made some money like that two, but I keep it under the counter. I work a night or two a week as a bouncer. 4 hours, 60 bucks, and all the beer I wish to drink. I don't drink much while I work, though. A drunk bouncer is pretty useless should someone need some bouncin'! I tip 'em back after words from 12-2.
