Hey, guys I'm planning on coming over for the ruckus. I've got an idea that I want to throw at you and see what you think. I have had contact with the pastor of the Rumney Baptist Church that is right there about a mile from the parking area. He is interested in doing something for the climbing community. I have helped with free spaghetti dinners for the climbers at the mountainfest here in the dacks and it seems to be well received. Here are my questions, would you prefer a spaghetti dinner or a pancake breakfast? and which day would be best? It would be a free meal with no strings attached and a good opportunity to meet some of the local people. What do you think?

attendance would be optional. But it would be a free meal. No sermon or offering or anything. It would be on a church property hosted by a Christian Climbing organization however.

The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. I'll climb with any faith, any color, any time.

I think it is a great idea! Being from different backgrounds, some will say no and others, myself included, will be open to the idea. As you mentioned, this is not a religous gathering where sermons are preached, but an open hand to those who travel through their town. As many times as I've been to Rumney, I have not stopped to say "Hi" to the community as a whole. Sure, I've talked to locals, but never really got to know them. I think it's time for a change, for me at least. Makes no difference which it is, breakfast or supper. Both sound great! Todd, I'll be looking forward to meeting you and thanks again for the offer. Alan

Al, I know you never ask for money, but I'm also pretty sure you incur some expenses doing this. Can we give you some bucks to help defray any costs?

Donation are accepted, but not required. Even though it does cost a little, under $300, I don't want people not to come by charging. Never the less, donations will not be turned away. I hope to be able to have my son DJ one of the nights, maybe do a live show. (Sun dance required, cept for Rich and I ... we tried for three years and all it did was pour!) Bring your musical instruments and the stage is yours!! Edited to inform all that the directions to the camping at Colleen's and Jim's are on the first post of this thread.

Won't all this pancake and spaghetti eatin' get in the way of climbing? I don't know about the rest of you, but here's my usual climbing itinerary: 1. 7am - Wake up, brush teeth (and maybe hair), head to the crag. 2. Evening - Leave the crag when it gets too dark to see. 3. Later evening - share stories with climbing friends over beer. Pancakes or not, it's sure to be a good time! Looking forward to it!

I sure hope that this does not turn out to be a bashing event. Here's a dude that wants to do something good for us and all that can be said so far is disrespectful. Why? I thought this was the age of tolerance?!?

I thought this was the age of tolerance?!? You're absolutely right. Sorry about the beer comment. Although, I was partially seriously, I do love a good beer after climbing. And, if it gains me any brownie points, I am a PK, you know. Josh

Now that that has been said, it's a little over a month away! Hopefully, this will be the first with sun ... any suggestions for after-climbing activities? Again, on the weekend, there are races at the Cannan Speedway. The weekend of the event is also the weekend for the Enfield Fair, for those who like to get sick on the rides after eating the greasy food ... or you could win a stuffed animal! There will be horseshoes and volleyball. Anything else?? Edited to inform that there is now a list of who said they will be there on the first post, just below the directions to Colleens.
