This bro was one of a kind, in a field of copycat wannabe's. He made me laugh... at myself as much as anyone else. He made me think, which any number of people will tell you is damned hard to do, sometimes. He even, on occasion, put a lump in my throat. Sty/daryn was class, all the way, and the sun won't shine as bright around here for a long while without his peculiar take on the world. Climb on, you crazy diamond...

I am so sorry to hear about Sty's passing. This is truly sad. Sty was a big part of the rc.com community and we'll miss him. DDT

In reply to:it of course also has to do with sexual things, with what a male can do with his fingers to a female. Is true he would never call the "fish taco" stinky

Thanks Erin for posting this here. My condolences to friends and family. Such an unexpected loss! I only knew Sty as an online persona, but he was an essential part of RC.com, and a unique personality that made these boards fun to read. RIP, sty!

First off, my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Like many people here, I never got the chance to meet Sty in person but, like many others, he became a part of my life through this website. I am at a loss for words right now so I'll leave it with quote from a great poem many here have read "I hope the climb to heaven is something less than 5.11" RIP Sty. -F

Totally shocked, Daryn was so looking forward to ice season this year, and I was looking forward to swapping photos. Rest in Peace buddy, your witty posts will certainly be missed by all.

I dunno. Maybe I just want him to still be around, but I think that's too easy. I think there's something more to it than a simple anagram. (No offense, Erin, but you guys haven't been together for a while, right?) I just think he was a lot cleverer than that. But like I said, maybe I just don't want him to be gone from these pages.

(synchronicity) On the day Sty passed, I was in Tuolumne Meadows, thinking just how good it was to be alive in this gorgeous world. (synchronicity) On the night before I read the post about his passing, I watched the documentary on Joe Strummer of the Clash, who died unexpectedly, like Sty, of a heart condition that had gone undectected until it caused his death. (synchronicity) Some time ago I listed a post for free gear. While cleaning up the garage we had come upon some old ice climbing gear of my husband's, circa 35 years ago. An old ax, some old ice screws, a warthog etc. Daryn replied first that he wanted them, and I mailed them out to him. When they arrived he sent me an email - he was so pleased to have that stuff for his collection of vintage gear. His passion for ice climbing was clear. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I never met Daryn, I live on the other side of the world, and yet there are some people whose soul touches you and to hear this is such a shock, I'm sitting on my couch in tears... I don't know what to say, I will miss him, and yet we never shared a spoken word or set eyes on each other... just a casual word here and there in passing in random threads, but he was someone I was truly fond of. I know if we'd lived in the same town/country we'd have had a hell of a laugh together... I feel like I have lost a friend I never knew. Adam

I, like most people on this site, never met sty, but I loved his posts. I had always hoped to run into him at the crag, or get the chance to climb with him, but alas that will never happen. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and the worlds loss of an amazing person. I was wondering where the memorial party is going to be held as I would like to attend.
