Zozo - I'm hiking the Gore Creek trail this weekend. I say hiking, a simple one night backpack trip. If you want to come along - we have room for one more. I'd imagine that puppies are welcome on this trail. Its fairly easy in the beginning with a huge push upward to the source of the creek near the end. First time out backpacking in many years. Once I see how my knees do on this trip - I'll be up for a 14'er of a moderate/easy variety.

Mother_sheep - I'm all over Eldo on the 23rd and possibly on the 24th if you want to get together. Let me know.

Any way possible that you would reschedule this for Aug? I will be on The Prow on Kit Carson that weekend and really want to do those peaks with you. [insert sad ouooy dog eyes here] (hey, it works on my sons!!!!)

Thats do-able. I need to take a trip that weekend though. Anyone have any suggestions? Something my dog could do. He's a metro! Anyone know anything about rawa(sp) wilderness? san miguel? An easy to moderate 14'er. Im going to want some company.

The sad doggy eyes.....have....no....effect......on.....................me..............................

When accessing Sharkstooth via sky pond, you approach (left to right) Sharkstooth, The Petit, The Saber and what. . .Is that formation next to the Saber Zowie?

Not Zowie, as tim stated.

That formation would be the Foil. The easiest route is 5.9R, and it's supposed to be FULL-ON 5.9.

Tracy, WTF I thought we were doing something this week? I'm free tomorrow- Thursday.

But . . .but. . .you never called. :-( Thursday some of my hot girlfriends are taking me out for my birthday. I hope they get me a hot stud who will let me take body shots off of him. We'll be at the Elm. Feel free to come by and tie one on if you're in the area after 10:00. No boys alloud before then.

James. . .I will be climbing in the Indian Peaks those days. Thanks anyway.

Ok since I was asked so nicely to put off the Redcloud/ Sunshine idea for a few weeks I now have my eye on the Tabeguache / Shavano traverse. Same dates or the last weekend of this month whichever come first.

Doesnt look like you loop it so it would be an early start to avoid getting caught in weather. Im going to test my knees on this one! Hit me back if your interested.

Elm is 5001 E. Colfax-about ten blocks east of Colorado on Colfax (right across from Tante Louise). We'll be on the patio.

Anyone who wants to show after 10:00 is more than welcome to join us.

Of all the 14neers I've done, Tabeguache & Shavano (w/o ski descent of the Angel) were possibly the least fun most tedious boring (relatively speaking) slogs I've ever done. Have fun. :|

Yep. Sucked.
(just personal experience, you might find different)

If you want to get a couple peaks together, and you want to be in the Sawatch, you'd be doing yourself a favor by doing Missouri, Belford and Oxford, or Columbia and Harvard. Unless of course you are in the bag'em all mode, and you are ready to deal with a long, crappy day hike just to tick them off your list.

Im not in bag em all mode but I do want to string two together to see if the knee exercise Ive been doing all winter are helping or not. They felt pretty good after Quandary last weekend.

Thanks for the heads up though, I will check out the ones you suggested.

A group of us made it to Castlewood for the kids climbing thingy. There was Me, Alec and Austin, Sharpie and Jackson, Tim Stich and Marquetta (sp?), Wannabe and Tristan, Paedrus and Kyle. I think Boulderguy or dude also showed up but I didn't get to meet him. My kids thought all of your kids were way cool and had a great time. We should totally do this again.

Sunday my sons, my partner and I headed to Shelf. There were others who were there as well from the site but we were at the Bank while they were at cactus. Not really sure who was where. My tendons are tired. Gotta do some alpine this weekend for sure!!!!!!

Marketa picked two boletus mushrooms that day at Castlewood Canyon. Unfortunately, they had too many worms in them. Arrrgh! The beer at Rockyard was good, however. No worms.

We be moving this weekend, so hopefully some climbing next weekend.

Hey ZoZo! I have knee issues as well. What kind of exercises were you doing? I've done a few longer day hikes this year - 8.5 and 13. After the 8.5 miler my knees were soft and painful on the way down....usually to the lower and outside of my kneecap. The pain after the first day was pretty rough. This past weekend I did 13 RT in one day with 2500 feet of gain. Same problem but my knees felt better the second day. However I still have the same pain on the descent...any ideas? Other than to see a medical professional who needs my insurance dividends...LOL

Hey James,

I actually went to a physical therapist and she gave me these stretchy rubber band things and a whole list of exercise to do with them. Apparently the pain comes form the muscles on the outside of your kneecaps being stronger than the ones on the inside and it actually starts to pull your kneecaps towards the outside of your leg.

I know how much it sucks, that is some of the worst pain I have ever had. Also really concentrate on keeping your feet staright when you walk or buy some of those insert things that force your feet straight. I also never hike without the poles anymore.

Hey I have to bail again this weekend because it's my son's Birthday so I'm going to go boulder at Snake Pit around 4:00 tomorrow afternoon if anyone is interested. I will also bring my gear if anyone wants to do any routes. I will check back tomorrow afternoon when I get off work to see if anyone is interested.
