In reply to: Anyone in the springs interested in doing New Era tommorow? Be number 5 for me a nice solid number. I'm interested, what time are you planning on climbing?

Many many thanks to Lisa and Amber for their wonderful support and patience as I led Calypso. I had a great time. You both have way too much patience! I appreciate it all. Anyone seen my #2 camalot? ;) (wink wink nudge nudge) We'll get you up on your first trad lead very soon Lisa. Call me about Sunday - if you want to try then. Amber - it was nice meeting you. I look forward to your return to the sharp end. Gang - One note about Amber. She climbed the first pitch of Calypso with an immobilization brace around one of her feet. No falls - definately a rating enhancer! We didn't bag both pitches but we certainly got the first one. It took me a long time to do it but it is my first 6 lead! :) I'm just happy to have it in the books. I'll bag the second pitch soon. Have a great weekend. JD

Yay James...you did it! So which part was the "patient" part....the "Yep, you got it, no problems...." OR "Dammit James, get your arse closer to the rock and trust your feet!" No worries I had a ball...I'll catch my trad lead soon. Oh yea...I had visions of a #2cam menacing me in a bad dream lastnight. I wonder what that's all about!

So who has Wednesday off? I would like to get out, as my partners for Sunday bailed on me at the last minute leaving me high and dry.

I can't really blame the person, she was rather sick so it's not like she was being a flake. It was just such a beautiful day yesterday. BTW, congradulations on Calypso.

If a 6 can be stiff, Calypso is the one. There are a couple of tricky spots on that climb for sure. Glad you did it!

In reply to: Thanks Gary and Tracy. I appreciate it. What is next on your ascent list? JD More new routes at Devil's Head for me. There is a newly developed crag there called the Gum & Molar (I believe that's right), evidently it's got 6 climbs ranging from 5.6-5.10. From what I understand all the climbs except for one are under 5.10. Then there is a bunch of stuff on the crimpfest and the Headstone that I want to. Alas, I doubt there is enough good weather left for me to do it all. Snowsliding season should be upon us in just a couple of weeks.

In reply to: Thanks Gary and Tracy. I appreciate it. What is next on your ascent list? JD For once I can say that I have no idea. My seasonal asthma has kicked in. It kept me off of Dead Dog Couloir on Sunday. I struggled for air up to the couloir. By the time it was time to really get going, my back was sore and I felt like I was going to hurl. On top of that, the pressure on my chest was awful. I caught my second wind but I was feeling totally beat down because I struggled for almost an hour prior to the climb. So I went down to my partner's truck and crashed while they had a good climb. It's hard to turn your back on a climb. But I think it's smart to know when to turn around. Anyway, it's back to basics for me until I get over this mess, which should be soon. One good thing that happened was after we all had pizza and beer, I couldn't fathom going home to my empty place (no kids on Sunday). So I went for a hike up in the Mt. Evans Wilderness area. I found this 40' + formation in the middle of no where. I soloed up what felt like 5th class and watched storms roll in. Then on the drive out, I found another formation on Squaw Pass that was bolted. It's right around mile marker 15. I saw about 8 lines. Anyone know what I'm talking about? The formation was really tall. There were some trad lines on it as well. It's maybe 250'+ tall. So James, I guess while my lungs are recovering, I'm going to explore some not so well known areas at a lower altitude for now. I may even hit the desert this weekend. We'll see.
