For reals, while driving to the Black Cyn from SLC and just outside Grand Junction, "Ummm Bret, do you know what side of the Canyon the Scenic Cruise is on?, no? Do you know where it is? no? me neither...Do you know what it looks like? I have seen a picture of it in a magazine." This was early 80's no guide and no topo but ambition and ignorance, what a combo!

"Hey man, you're off route and can't downclimb, it's WAY too thin". I heard that once and would have murdralized that gawker if he stuck around after I downclimbed to my last piece and got lowered down.
