My definition of "brilliant troll," is one who posts only once and incites a virtual riot, but nevers knows it, because he or she never returns again to see his baby mature. That's the ultimate troll: sharp enough to roil the pot intentionally, yet aloof enough not to care. The moment a troll strikes a second time, he's a dime a dozen.

"How do I measure the length of my rope?" by Powerslave ['04]
In reply to: Hi. I did a search on this issue, but nothing came up and when it did... Anyway. I bought a brand spankin' new Maxim rope from a friend who bought it from the local gym we usually climb at. I want to know if it is 50m or 60m, but I have not thought of a good way to measure accurately. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In reply to: Call me crazy, but use a tape measure?
In reply to: Have you actually thought about this question? At all?? A) Use a tape measure. B) No tape measure? Then generally . . . fingertip to fingertip (arms horizontal) is the same length as your height. Count "arm lengths". C) No arms? Then most adult male tennis shoes are about a foot long. Go heel to toe and count off a distance then lay the rope out. D) No feet? Then check out your kitchen floor. Is it made of 12 inch x 12 inch tiles? Use them as a measuring device. Not 12 inch x 12 inch? Guesstimate its size and adjust accordingly. E) Go back to the local gym and see if they have another rope thats the same color/diameter/brand and see what the tag says.
In reply to: form it into a circle. measure the diameter, and multiply this by 3.141592653589. this is the length of your rope.
In reply to: Cut a 1 meter section off and measure its weight. Then you measure the weight of the entire rope coil. Divide the weight of the entire rope by the 1m section and you get the length of the original rope less 1m.
In reply to: I contacted Maxim with what little info I have (I don't know the diameter or length or model #), but I have nto yet recieved a response.
In reply to: I'm sure that by this time that email has been copied and distributed all over Maxim's headquarters. Probably the most fun they've had at Maxim in a long time.
In reply to: you will need: a stopwatch, a harness, a solid anchor atop a cliff >70m high. put on harness. tie in to rope. attach rope to anchor. start stopwatch and jump off cliff. stop stopwatch at bottom of fall. you have fallen a distance approximately 4.9 times the square of the fall time. divide by 1.06 to adjust for (approx) rope stretch and you have the length of the rope. as a bonus you have tested the rope under "real conditions" and have checked that you can build a bomber anchor. You are almost a climber already!
In reply to: The measurement I came up with is between 50 and 60m as I expected. I tried using a mega tape measure and it was the most accurate. Putting the rope at 186 feet. So, I still don't know how long this rope is... -Jay

So I contacted Maxim to tell them I had a rope of theirs and was just wondering how long it was and what the diameter might be? Did I understand that correctly....... no I could'nt have?

In the thread "does gear taste that good?" (note: a thread discussing the merits of how GEAR TASTES), we see:
In reply to: I assume the taste you get, is one of the chemicals to either give the rope colour, or to preserve or protect it... Might write to a rope manufacturer and ask... I hope he asks Maxim. They probly haven't had a good laugh since the last rc.commer wrote to them...

In reply to: OOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYy So I was at the gym looking at the number 5 C4 and Regular Camalot and discovered that the original Camalot number 5 is quite a bit larger than the C4 number 5. Does anyone know anything about this? Is Black Diamond planning on making a bigger C4 than the 5? later, same thread: In reply to: thanks for the clearification i never saw a number 6 C4 on anysites (but i really wasn't looking) and i have deciided that everyone on this site really sucks ass

In reply to: The absence of all intelligent thought is astonishing as I browse your rhetoric on a daily basis. It's a miracle you've even made it into your late 30's without being run over by a bus. Then again, it is also a shame that bus hasn't paid you a visit. Your points have none, your words are mere ramblings of an idiot, and if you were my dog I'd shave your ass and make you walk backwards. Just because you'll never be more than the sh*t juice surrounding a fly's proboscis doesn't mean you reserve the right to open your loud mouth at a moments notice. I think it would be better for this world if your genetalia would have a "mishap" with the gears of a combine. Steve heh. nice.
