I've just purchased a unicycle, and my goal is to be able to slackline while riding it by the end of the summer. Has anyone heard of this done before? And if so does anyone have any tips?
After that, I'd like to juggle my clubs, while slacklining, while unicycling. I think it can be done. I'll post videos by as soon as I get it. . . :D

i would suggest taking the tire and tube off and then riding the bare rim on the slackline

i'd guess that getting this done on a slackline is gonna be near impossible.
i have seen it done on a slackrope, tho. (one that's static, and doesn't stretch.) impressive as hell.

My suggestion is to try it with a very loose slackline first - that will sort of mimic a slack rope setup. Having tried bongo boards and balancing on snow boards on them looser may help get you going.
A friend of mine is insanely good with a unicycle - he said it took him 6 months to a year to really do much with it.

Well glad to hear that people like the idea. It's unfortunate that veganboyjosh says it may take 6 months to a year. I was hoping for the end of the summer, but hey, at least I have something to work for eh? I'll keep you people posted on my (most likely) slow as hell progress. :)

i didn't say that, someone else did.
in any case, i would think that it would take some hard work to get it by the end of 6 months, much less the end of the summer.
especially if you're new to either slacklining or unicycling and ESPECIALLY if you're new to both.

Yeah, sorry about the confusion. It took your friend six months to a year to learn unicycling right? Anyway, I can hold my own on a slackline. I've even tried a few highlines. But I am new to the unicycle. Plus, I can juggle on the slackline already, so I figure I only have to add one critical component, right? :D
We'll see!

Yeah, there was some climber (don't remember his name) who did a lot of highlining w/o protection, and I think the Cirque tried to get him to do one of their shows.

Yeah, I was going to say they do that all the time in the circus.
Don't forget to practice with the pink tutu. The extra fluff will make it hard to see what's going on between the line and the unicycle. :wink:

I'm racing you to see who does this first. My friends keep teling me to learn to do this anyways. I've been unicycling for like 6 years now, and I'm just starting to get good on a slackline. I think it can be done by the end of the summer.
People unicycle on tightropes all the time. Take off the tire and tube, and cover the rim with rubber. I'm not sure how it works, but I'll find out.

It took me about a month to pick up unicycling and I've been at it for a few years. I had never thought about slacklining while riding one, although now i feel compelled to do so. The real challenge comes in when you order your first giraffe unicycle. With the seat at about 5 foot 9 on mine, the balance is alot touchier as far as being able to save it when your falling. Just something to look forward to. Good Luck!

Just to add a bit: they often remove the tire & tube and use a large rubber band looking thing on the rim OR use a solid rubber tire with a V cut into it. I can't say for sure but the band may be easier to use on webbing instead of a V cut tire.

I could swear that i've seen someone do this before ... but i have no idea where, i may just be imagining what its like. I have seen some kids jumping down sets of stairs on unicycles though ... not what i'd use it for but to each him own. Good luck on the slackline, taking the tire off to rid on the rim would work best, but you may need to get a really wide rim or a skinniner slackline

I think the slackline can be done. I can't ride a unicyle for 2 inches, but It would be great to see you riding a unicycle highline in Sedona! Don't hurt yourself.

Wow, that's some wickedly trick shit right there! I think I've seen a couple segments from his films too. It's just a damn shame that he ends up looking like Micheal Jackson when he bunny-hops or airs it out at all.

as a unicycle rider i can say that the thought of riding on a slack line has occured to me but it would be pretty friggin hard...so i have not tried...
as far as getting skills in general...the learning curve went like this for me...
first week: ride across kitchen (barely)
second week: ride to work (1 mile)
third week: ride down small dirt hills and small flights of stairs (3 stairs)
fourth week: ride longer hills rocks stairs trying to grind rails at skate park and more fun stuff...
most people dont go so quick but after watching kris holm i was on a mission
and practiced all the time...set your mind to it and do it...

you could start by ataching a heavy weight to a stiff pole extending a couple of feet below the bottom of the wheel...then gradualy reducing the weight til you could balence without it...
