An accident leading to death is hard on all of us. Climbing is supposed to be fun and safe. It's awful to hear about someone whose fun suddenly turned black.

Nobody thinks that it'll happen to them, but things like this just won't go away. Rappeling accidents seems to be one of the worst, because they occur after the "hard part" is over. Every climber should be extremely cautious at all times, especially after a fine, hard climb when their concentration might not be the best. I like to climb with the idea that the descent is the crux: that's when something is most likely to go wrong.

My condolences.

We'd all do well to remember this the next time we are out climbing.
