Wow, it seems like you really wrote a lot there for an ankle injury. I hope Kim is doing better.

In reply to: Wow, it seems like you really wrote a lot there for an ankle injury. I hope Kim is doing better. Your tone suggests that a mere ankle injury does not warrant so many words. Hey, try reading it again. You might find that this isn't about the injury itself, but about how it was treated, and how one person's being prepared kept the situation, and the injury, from being much worse. And if you choose to think just a little you'll realize that the smallest injury can be life-threatening in a wilderness environment, especially if it is poorly treated. Show a little damn respect. If you have to see a close friend of yours in pain, may you be as prepared as the OP. And if the broken ankle is yours next time, may you be surrounded by people who care enough to treat it seriously, even though it's only your ankle.

Even though it might be obvious from the last part, just to be really explicit, the Sams Splint won't show up on an X-ray(actually it probably will a little). I'm not an MD or anything, but if you had a more serious injury(neck, etc.) they wouldn't have to remove the splint to take an x-ray, reducing movement and risk of more permanent damage. Hope Kim gets better soon! Justin
