Actually, I see no reason to limit the ffb talk in here, I don't actually care about the rc.com league ... the settings are kind of ridiculous.

Your money league is pay per transaction? Or just for each trade? That's pretty intense. How many teams in the league, and what's your starting lineup?

All transactions cost money. It's a twelve man league. I'll give you a complete breakdown of my team tomorrow when I get back to mission control (i.e. my cube). I ended up with Fitzgerald and Bush in both leagues.

P.S. Who's call was it to use ESPN for the rc.com league. I vote yahoo for next season.

As far as the settings go, they seem like the standard settings. I did't like the autodraft thing though I guess a live draft would have been tough to coordinate (we could have used any rc.com thread I guess). Though I didn't check all the settings.

arrettinator used espn. I am with you in moving to yahoo next season. They run the best fantasy sports site, by far. I wish I'd remembered to set my preranks for the autodraft. Last year, we had a live draft, and it was just me. Arrettinator showed up for the last few rounds.

10 pass yds/pt is not standard. Neither is 10 return yds/pt. Or the use of an "OP" position that allows you to use a second qb.

I've seen other leagues with any option player. I've seen leagues where running backs get a point per ten attempts (that was a weird one).

I just don't see the point of the option position. Quarterbacks get far more points than other positions. Why not just do a second qb?

I guess in ten team leagues, the op makes the draft/free agency more interesting or challenging. That's my best guess. I didn't even realize we had the op and I didn't touch anything for Week 1 so I kind of handicapped myself (still managed a win though. Thank you Roethlisberger!)

And yet we'll still lose at Arrowhead, just like every other year.
What do you think of the revamped defensive line?

btw Champ Bailey is my new favorite player, right behind John Lynch

you're referring to Denver's, I assume? Mostly I'm hoping we'll actually have a pass rush this year. And that the d-line won't wear down after 10 games like last year.

Love Champ Bailey. Did you see the Denver-NE game last year where Brady threw 50+ times, but only once to Bailey's side of the field?
That was great!
Now we have Dre' Blye, two true shutdown corners.
His stats and skills are nearly the equal of Champ's.
Which side will QB's throw too, they're fucked either way.

I guess we can have a brief baseball break. This is like the Sports Center segment of our lineup.

The 'mazins kind of quietely crept back into this thing, huh?

Last I checked the yanks had a decisive lead over the Blue Jays. I' d' love to see one last decent season with the Skip before we go into the (likely) Mattingly rebuilding era which I think will look a lot like the Billy Martin era (at least in terms of dugout drunkeness.)

Oh well. I'm seeing the 80's, like de ja vu all over again.

Hey, it's the yankees circle of life. They'll come around again. Been doin it for almost 100 years.

Enjoy it while you can. Maybe the Mets will pick up another championship. 3 is a nice number. I prefer the old 3 in a row but hey, you guys are the Mets!

Raiders go up against the Broncos this week.
Defensive match up, the Raiders may have to activate Daunte if they want to have a shot at winning.
The rookie QB isn't gonna be suiting up for this one.

That would be great, throwing Russell in there at Mile High for his first game.

I don't think it really matters who the Raiders use at qb.

And Shanahan really hates Davis and never lets him win.
It really doesn't matter because for the Raiders to win they're gonna have to throw the ball and that means Champ or Dre is gonna pick em off and shut em down.

Man, I can't believe I missed this thread until now. Let's try to get caught up:

Jamarcus Russell, well he may be good but there's at least a year learning curve for NFL quarterbacks which means that the Raiders win maybe 4 games this year which in turn means...oh yes...another top 5 draft pick! Maybe in a few years we can talk. As far as the fans go, Raiders fans make for a very unpleasant experience for visiting teams which is what you want! If you're not one of them, then yeah, you better watch out. But in terms of being good fans, what more could you ask for?

Leinart - overrated in college and overrated in the pros Yeah, bench him or trade him in fantasy league.

Chiefs - Larry Johnson was perhaps the most overrated player in the NFL last year. Without Trent Green we're seeing just how bad this team is.

Trivia Question: Who did the Falcons trade to San Diego for the first overall pick in the draft they took Michael Vick in?

And finally, here is my contribution:

Well, they got the 2nd pick to take LdT, I don't remember what else they got out of that trade. The pick they used on Kaeding?

Are you LdT's backup?

I don't remember who they traded for the pick but they ended up with LT on Atlanta's pick. Even a blind squirel finds an acorn every once in a while.

Is that close enough? If I have it right, you have to post more Jessica Alba pictures.

Close, they actually got the fifth overall pick and took LT. But San Diego also got much forgotten mini-man and speed wideout Tim Dwight. Imagine where those teams would be if that didn't occur. The Falcons would have LT and probably make playoff runs and the Chargers (who never would have drafted Phillip Rivers) would have enjoyed some exciting years with the Michael Vick before he decided to rededicate his life to killing dogs. OR maybe, living in San Diego, he never would have had a dog fighting facility cause we don't tolerate that crap like they do in the deep south.

Oh and yes I am the Michael Turner. Amazing that I can still climb being a 250 pound black man.

Nice!

Since the NFL wires on ESPN are quiet this morning, and since you brought it up, I think it's time for some fantasy dog fighting. In my lineup, I have Amanda (named for an ex-girlfriend with a similar personality). She is an 87 lbs pit bull who was drafted in the second round in 2006 out of LSU but managed to put up some impressive numbers in her rookie year with four confirmed kills (including a postman and a deceptively large 1st grader) not including several cats and other smaller animals. She's favored by five in this weeks game with an over/under of 13. Who's up for some side action?

Young is my favorite QB of all time -- maybe not the BEST, but for me the most entertaining. His ability to move both in and out of the pocket was underrated at the time, imo, and he would have been a much better fit for the modern NFL. I loved watching him play. And, as a rather pointless factoid, my dad admitted him into law school.

What do you mean "now"? Has the quarterback position changed that much since Young was playing? It's too often assumed that so called "modern day quarterbacks like Vick" brought a new level of a scrambling quarterback to the mix. That was nothing new, look at Randal Cunningham and Warren Moon. And there's still plenty of traditional pocket passers, look at Brady and Manning. So what do you mean by modern NFL?

Vince Young is at best a poor man's version of Randal Cunningham anyway.

Though I do think the bar has been raised since Steve Young and certainly the expectation of rookie QB's is higher (prepare to be burned Oakland!). But I think if a first round qb got the chance to understudy Peyton Manning today, he'd take it. Just like anyone would have understudied Joe Montana.

Steve Young was arguably the best backup quarterback in the NFL at the time. However that isn't necessarily enough to get you into the Hall of Fame.

Is there any way that Young would have stayed a backup in the modern NFL? He missed a significant portion of his potential starting time by sitting the bench behind Montana. How many talented QBs would accept that now?

True, look at Aaron Rodgers at GB understudying Favre. I bet, when Favre finally does retire, he'll have a much better year than any rookie QB that year. And forget Favre saying he wouldn't help him, he's helping him if in no other way than just being around him.
