Here is a down and dirty formula for calculating approximate weights. I have no idea how scientific this is but someone taught me this long ago "rule of 5's" AND "rule of 6's" If you are female and 5 feet tall, you should weight about 105 pounds. add 5 pounds for every inch over 5 feet if you are male and 5 feet tall, you should weight about 106 pounds. add about 6 pounds for every inch over 5 feet. Again, I don't know if there is any science behind this but it should give you a ballpark weight close to ideal.

I am 5' 6/7" at my best I weighed about 165-170 and climbed 5.11c-5.12b, depending on the day, and bouldered solid v8 with one v10 that I worked for about two weeks. IMO it's more about technique than size. There were climbs that I was getting shut down on that after about seven days of work I could cruise. I had a friend that I was climbing with at the time who was "CUT". The guy was two inches taller than me, weighed about 190, and could curl 150 lbs and bench 345. I could climb circles around him. We always said that he fought the rock, and I just moved with it. Don't know how much truth there is in that, but I use my advantages and don't dwell on my disadvantages.

189cm and 86kg. I think that's about 9'14" and 426lbs in USA measurements. happy on easy 5.10 at the moment. Can scrape a 5.10d on a good day on top rope. 10 years ago I was just scraping 5.11c/d sport - same weight, same height, more muscle, way less fat.

interesting formula but it doesn't seem to take into account one's genetic disposition or build. you can have a guy who meets the rules of 6's but can't climb anything while you could have a guy that's in great, athletic shape who has more muscle mass.

Oct 1 = 165lbs April 1 = 180lbs Height = 5.8 My body doesn't handle the cold well, so I always have a stronger urge to eat more in the winter. The gain / loss happens every year. I do climb better in the fall than I do in the spring.

I've 5'9" and right now I'm 195. I'm pretty muscular though, especially the legs, from a few years of competitive racing and soccer. I still run about a seven/seven and a half minute mile I'll probably drop about 10 lbs when the soccer season starts in two weeks. Outside, I'm leading 9s and easy 10s, and a bit harder than that in the gym.

5’8” 145 ,,, also take this into prospective… I have a friend at 200+ ish 5’10” and still climbs .12 trad. It has also to do with structure , frame size, body type, how much time you spend in that environment, and more often than not a determined will. Oh and some cardio wont hurt.

According to that rule of 6's, I'm 30 pounds underweight. I'm sure glad I don't weigh 226. It's hard enough pulling 200 lbs around a rock.

I'm 6'0" and weigh about 178 with about 8% bodyfat. I used to be heavy into bodybuilding and Olympic lifting though (lost 15lbs of muscle since then though).

Kids are fearless and more agile than adults. I am 27, 5' even and about 101lbs. Have been climbing in the gym and outdoors since Late February 2008 and am climbing 5.9 on my best days, but have been defeated by less, so I am not sure weight has to much to do with it!

5'8", 180 pounds and dropping. I won't mention what grade I climb, because your mother probably out-climbs me. I've dropped about 20 pounds in the last year doing nothing but climbing, and have added other exercises in attempt to reach a new goal of dropping 20 more. It's funny, but climbing has not only caused a direct weight loss through getting my fat ass off the sofa, but it has also motivated a complete lifestyle change. I eat healthier and work out more, not because I like eating healthy or working out, but because doing those two will eventually improve my climbing.

The Devil is in the Details. For those people who have been scrutinizing my down and dirty formula for weight, it obviously is far from perfect. But it will give you a ballpark figure that's easy to memorize. In my profession, I rarely encounter individuals whose actual weight is below these estimates. If your actual weight is below the estimates provided by the rule of 5's and 6's, I doubt you have a tummy roll.

easy to remember but very inaccurate = not very useful http://www.cdc.gov/...r/bmi_calculator.htm BMI seems to be a bit more standard.. for my avg of 118 at 5 7 i'm a 18.5 which is slightly low to normal on their scale.. if i went on yours then i should be 142 lbs.. which... is ALOT neither takes in account body type.. my friend is 5' 6 and like 160 but he's' a freaking beast.. climbs .13 / v9-10 and is training for Tri's and BMI says he's over weight.
