I didn't "know" Daryn. But I'm stunned. It's very surreal to suddenly lose somebody so young, fit and vibrant. I'm angry. There is so much testimony, here and on MP and the Taco, about him being a good person. Why do we lose good young people like Daryn, but rapists and baby killers get to wallow in prison well into their 70s? It's not fair. It's just fucking cruel. I'm frightened, troubled. If a seemingly healthy person can die suddenly at 35, am I, a seemingly healthy person of 27, susceptible? How would I know? Am I "ready?" Hell no. But mostly, I'm just sad. I probably never would have met Daryn, but we had a kinship. He brought something unique to this strange, vulgar, ultimately loving community. His loss is a punch in the gut. I mourn. I hurt. I cry. I am so sorry.

What a shock to come back from the weekend and see this post. I can't imagine how difficult it is for his friends and family to lose him in such an unexpected way. It sounds like he was a person loved and appreciated by those who knew him. My condolences to those people as well as his internet-connected friends here online.

I didn't really know how to respond when I saw this earlier today. For a while, I was at a loss for sentiment, after all stinkydonny was just another name on the screen. At first his method of posting annoyed the fuck out of me, and a few other things grated on my nerves. When he offered to take me around little cottonwood canyon on my ultimately doomed roadie, I was skeptical and didn't provide a definative answer. Later, his humanism sort of grew on me, and the offer of a belay, scotch and knowledge made me consider him a friend. That and the fact that he never threatened PC#13. If I could, I'd rope up with him any day, but I guess I blew my chance. From the three threads devoted to his memory it appears he was a major influence in the community, and one that will be missed. I'm raising a glass of scotch in his honor tonight. That's the best eulogy I can muster. Others have said it better, but few worse. RIP dude.

Then we can go solo some freakishly sick ice flow. He'd probably approve. Heck, he'd probably laugh at us doing it.

Its hard to put into words how you feel, in some ways people would argue he is just a name on the sceen and you don't really know him but when I logged in this morning to find he had passed, I was shocked.... and then a turn of real saddness come over me, that lump in your throat is a little hard to swallow. Just reading his post's, you could really tell he was a genuine person with a real love for life and love for climbing. He was a fellow climber, a fellow RC.comer and member of our climbing family. I have a lucky rock in my chalk bag I always reach for when I am looking for inspiration before climbing, Sty Ill be thinking about you... Yeah Ill have a little toast to Sty tonight after work

Being that I'm in a very warm part of the world I'll hafta take the ice gear out to a steep dirt filled choss chimney. SWHA.

I'm stunned, floored, flabbergasted...all of it. I knew Sty just through this community but in all of my interactions with him I believed him to be a funny, kind man. I wish I could have met him in person and shared a beer along with tall tales. Geogoddess, my heart goes out to you. I wish I was near to give you a hug. Know that my thoughts and hugs are going to you for as long as you need them. Wherever you are Sty we raise a glass in your honor. You are missed.
