The ego boost, because all of the grades are soft, followed immediately by the ego crush because that twelve-year old is hiking all the 7a+'s. The entertainment value of watching Europeans use all sorts of innovative (read: dangerous and bizarre) belay techniques.

Isn't that by definition? Hard routes are the ones you can't send.

Well , not according to whatitstincle above, he says "actually sending hard routs". I wouldn’t know. I can only climb 5.1 , if someone else leads it for me.

Hmmm...I don't know the context of his statement. See, other people can send routes that I think are hard but I can't. And that is annoying.

Getting lost in climbing. I like it when there is no one there...I take my ipod, put my earphones in and just traverse the whole thing. I feel like when I go to the gym I am training for my next adventure, so its inspiring to me. I also like taking newbies and teaching them...fun seeing them get excited about a sport I love :-)

love either the long lead session with friends, or the induced-meditative-glazed eyes-ipod bouldering session...ior route lapping.
Love the pump driving back home thinking about the progress made, the friendly faces at the gym, the meat market which is belaying at the gym, one of the reasons the gri-gri was invented...
And the friends I meeet there.

Every gym should have a bar inside.

But also, I like being able to practice technique and build endurance so that when I do go outside, it's worth 100% it. Not that it wouldn't be otherwise. But you understand. Cool

Actually, working at a gym has caused me to really dislike climbing in a gym, and I avoid it where possible. However, since my work schedule prevents me from climbing outside when the sun is still up, my overall climbing performance has gone down.

Question: All the chicks at the gyms here show up with their boyfriends and just sort of flop around on the 5.7 routes before sitting in the bouldering area making out on the crashpads. What grade do I have to climb/boulder to either steal the chicks or make the couples go away?
