Hello hello, the rumors are true, Caryn and I are back. Feeling much less retarded today than I did yest after about 30 hours of travelling, three flights and a full day of work. Passed out at 10pm after forcing myself to stay awake that long in an attemp to get back on an East Coast schedule. We had a blast. Unfortunetly I was not able to sneak in some climbing, aside from some beach scrambling. We did do a great little hike, hit the beach a bunch of times, spent a day on a junk, ate tons of cheap really good seafood, went to a yaucht club pool party, and shopped a little. Obviously a bunch of other stuff too, but with 8 rolls of film, you can see for yourself if you want. I was telling Chad that I wished I could call everyone as I picked up a North Face Gore Tex jacket for about $75. They even had a few Mountain Hardware coats for about $80. Unfortunetly the sizes were rather random. Still rather tired. Really need to get out and climb some though as I feel weak right now. I'm thinking Thursday maybe? I'm on the late shift this week so will be done between 5:45 and 6. Hammond Pond anyone? It's close, but I could maybe be talked into somewhere else. Let me know. See everyone soon. TD

Jeremy, Which day were you at Cathedral? I was on Thin Air at around 2:00 or 3:00 on Saturday. Did I mention it was my first Trad Lead? Sorry if you were behind me. As you can imagine I was slower than slow and about as graceful as a newborn giraffe learning to walk. In anticipation of your follow up question, I did not use the bolts on the traverse of P2. Nothing but gear...

As you can imagine I was slower than slow and about as graceful as a newborn giraffe learning to walk. In anticipation of your follow up question, I did not use the bolts on the traverse of P2. Nothing but gear... Actually, we got on Thin Air at around 1 on Saturday. It was a bit of a traffic jam. Myself and Tad (multisport) were climbing with some friends who were doing the Ozone bypass - the bolted line over the overhang left of the chimney. We were planning to stick to the route but someone up ahead was going for the time record - but not the speed record. We were up there frying at the first belay for a long-ass time, then on the second for a bit. We rapped down at around 3 to go get food. Came back a couple hours later and cruised it with no traffic at all. I hope you weren't the slow one causing the five parties to stand around for ever. If so, we all cursed your existance until our own karma was in danger. Either way, it's our fault for getting on a "classic" line in the middle of a saturday. Maybe you were the party right behind us? That's cool that you placed gear on the traverse. The bolts are a bit much, but I clipped them cause they were there. While we're spraying about gear, I didn't place gear at all on the first pitch. hehehe

In reply to: Hey it's Mike from QQ last week. What time are you heading up there tomorrow? I could make it there around 6-6:30. Oi Mike! 'sup? ;-) Lookin' like rain this afternoon, so QQ might be a wash out. I'd like to try to get to QQ before saturday, but I'm not sure if it's gonna work out. I will have all or most of friday off, and so could do some day/ mid afternoon there, but I dunno how many of the regs here would be able to. I know I'lbe at CR thuirsday evening, and most likely saturday late afternoon too, to get in one last session before vaca. I'll be camping in Truro next week, jonesing...hope the weather & surf is good, then it won't be so bad. ;-) Jeremey, one of the new CR regs (not a list member) was telling me last night that rumney is all bolted, is this true?

Rob, Rumney is all bolted, aside from a few random trad climbs. It's a sport meca for the east coast. Great climbing up there. If you've never been I highly suggest a trip up. Bolted lines from 5.3 all the way to 5.holycrapthatcanbeclimbed? TD

Definitly. Grab this book: http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=11196230&parent_category_rn=10574094 a few draws and get up there mid week if possible. It can be super crowded on weekends.

TD, I was just looking at the Rumney pics in the Routes DB and notice alot of the pics had pre-placed draws on the bolts above the climbers... most of the routes had very high ratings...is this common? the pre-placed draws, I mean.

Common for the hard stuff to have them pre-placed. I wouldn't expect to get on any route that had them there already if I was you. It's mostly for the overhanging stuff .11 and up I'd guess. I'd say have about 10 draws when you head up there and you should be fine.

Rob, don't listen to TD ... you don't need any draws. Just get one of the folks on here who have been there to take you. like me, or mike or jeff or gabe or .... I haven't been to "Rummey" (jk) in a while, so I'm due. If you have a couple weekdays in August I'll go there with you, camp for the night then climb multipitch at cannon with you the next day. let me know.

Don't get me wrong. Go with someone who has the gear if you don't want to buy your own. But what Jer fails to think about is that if Rob is going with someone who doesn't have the gear, he'll need about 10 draws of his own. Sheesh, he made it sound like I was wrong, I'm never wrong, just ask me

Wait!! So TD is saying all I need for my very first sport lead is to go buy 10 draws and head up to Rumney??? And I thought it would be complicated!!! Sweet I'll head up there tomorrow, right after I stop at EMS. Maybe I'll do a little reading on lead belay techniques, if I feel like it. You guys will be reading about me in no time, mark my words!!! :D :D
