That's funny that you got on Disneyland on Sunday...We climbed it Saturday night/Sunday morning too. (One pitch, no gear, seven-tripled slings and a single rope).

Good stuff!

Heard about that, and the night ascent of Alphonse, too. Well done. It's funny because when I heard Allison coming back to the tent Sat night I assumed she was drunk due to the person walking her back kept saying, "you sure you're OK?". Apparently she was just fine.

I assume by "no gear" that you meant no trad gear and that you clipped the pins? If not, why use a rope?

Hey all. I'm a grad student at UMass looking for some partners here in Western Mass. Originally from Utah, I have about 7 years of climbing experience, although I haven't climbed much at all since moving out here. I have been itching to get back into it after a little more than a year off and was hoping that some folks might show me around some of the local crags. I'm pretty comfortable leading trad, although not having climbed in a year and being unfamiliar with the local grades, i'm not exactly sure to what grade i'd be comfortable at. I have heaps of gear to contribute as well. This almost feels like some kind of strange personal add. Anyway, if you are in need of a partner shoot me a pm or something. cheers

Acheron, welcome. make sure you also ask around on the newenglandbouldering.com and NEclimbs.com sites, there are western MA climbers who lurk on those sites as well.

the Western Mass Climbers Coalition unfortunately doesn't have discussion forums but you might be able to contact them thru their email address and find some western MA climbers there.

Good Luck!

Oh, BTW your user name is also a route name at Purgatory Chasm in Sutton MA (central MA, just south of worcester)

The second-to-last Yosemite / Lover's Leap post is up. One more post to go on ethics and personal pursuits after this. I imagine that post will take a while, as I still have some work to do on that. Also, I imagine I'll get a bit behind with an up-coming 'Dacks trip starting on Thurs and ending on Mon. That'll take up a couple of weeks to write at least! Crazy

Anyway, enjoy!

you don't mean me, do ya? from the pic, i have no idea where that is.

sat i spent working foot technique on polished QQ granite with some non RC folks. got soaked in a sudden downburst, and rode home in the rain.

jake, I had to right click the red x, select properties, and then copy and paste the pic url into the browser window before it would show up.

the rock itself looks unfamiliar, plus I can see a couple bolts, and nowhere that I climb regulaly, or that I actually know well, has bolts.

maybe its the roof of the farley batcave? there's bolts there, but I wouldn't say I know it well.

I've only been there once and rob you are correct.. it goes at .12a and i wanna do it sooo freaking bad. it's .11ish straight up past the roof staying on the face. (anyone know a good job that involves knowing a crapload of beta... ;) ) Rob you did the .8 that goes up kinda near the arete there right? if not. . doo eet

Zeb etc has a .14+ project that goes from further back and into that a little bit.. maybe Old E knows if they made any progress on it or not.

My bad...I thought you were starting to spend a fair bit of time out here lately.

Jake, that roof project looks pretty tough!

no, unfortunately events have conspired to keep me from heading back there this season. the mnt webster expedition might have to wait until next year too. the summer's running down, in another month, I'll only have saturdays (and maybe alternate fridays) to spend climbing.

Rob,

Notch and I are planning a seige on Mt Webster. More offline if you might be interested. Will happen this season...

No progress - Zeb has been away. He is totally immersed in math nerdom now - so I'm not sure what the interest level is. He's be back around there this fall and if we get some nice weather maybe he'll get reinspired.

That 12a move seems so doable - but I am always so wasted by the time I get up the face to get in position that I have no pop left - not that I have much to start with....

Eric - there is actually a body position with one leg flagged that is not strenuous, and is very very close to a no-hands rest. Find that position, and I'm sure you'll send it!
