Sorry Jake, at this point in my life, climbing definately takes priority over concerts!

Maybe someone else is game though...

No offense, jetman, but I don't think it is possible nor desirable to do both Somerset, WI and Luverne, MN in the same weekend. That would be way too much driving.

Hey Kids... OK, 'couple updates here...

I couldn't find any #'s on the limit of people per camp site but I'm sure there is one. There IS a limit of two tents per site; that much is for sure so, lets be reasonable.

Also, I believe the State Park rules state that there is no alcohol allowed in the park. Well, I can definately say that we've broken that rule before. Again, I think if we keep it mellow, we'll be fine with a few beers.

Now the stats I know... I have reservations for a site, and so does Les. I think Tim also has a site and Craig P I think made a reservation. I'm not positive as to anyone else who actually has a site reserved. Now, when I made mine (which was like 2 months ago) there were like almost 60 sites still available. Having just checked, I can definately state that there is HALF that # now...
15 non-electric sites ($12 ea. per night)
16 electric sites ($15 ea. per night)
Reservation fee is a non-refundable $8.50

So, make a reservation or take your chances. It is up to you. The "Climb-a-thon" starts in 17 or 18 days (depending on how lucky you are)... Let's get a packin'!

I can account for 2 sites, my friend Heath reserved an electric site and my group has a non-electric site. There are 7 of us total for the not counting Craig who I think has his own campsite. Oh and Heath's dog so 7.2 - it is a very little dog ;-)

Jackie

PS I think we are leaving the tc around 4 - how late is the night climbing going to last?

I do have a site reserved for the weekend. Jay Haase (rockdawg) and his two daughters are planning on coming down too. I also mentioned the gathering to a few other guys, but they are going to Devil's Tower the weekend before, so I don't know if they'll be up for back-to-back roadtrips.

Cool Jackie! Please remind Heath that the State Parks require dogs to be kept on a leash of no more than 6ft and they can not be left unattended (and of course, bring the pooper-scooper).

If you're leaving the cities around 4, you should get to Blue Mound around 8, give or take, depending on traffic of course. When I go straight down there (without stopping at fo_d's), it usually takes me about 3 hours and maybe a few minutes. That's taking Hwy 169 to 60 to I-90 and then 75 north thru Luverne to the park. 'Course, I prefer to travel non-rush hour times of the day...

Anyway, we'll probably have ropes set up before dark, but the actual night climbing won't start 'til its dark (around 9pm or so) and then we'll climb 'til knowone wants to climb anymore which, could be midnight or later, depending. And, I assume those routes will mostly be easier routes 'cus, I for one plan to be somewhat worn out already from day-light climbing... 8)

Don't forget your headlamps and fresh batteries people!!!

I'd be up for sharing a site; I'll probably get down there on thursday and stay through saturday morning. Anyone wanna schnoogle? :)

Oh, and I do have a headlamp, but it's kinda crappy. I don't expect to be night climbing all that well, though I do plan on giving it a go during the day.

There is a problem with the night climbing plans. I just remembered that I saw a sign up at the parking lot at Blue Mound that says no parking after 9 PM. We might get ticketed or towed by the rangers unless we plan on hiking down to the crag. Personally I wouldn't mind a good hike, but I might not be in the majority.

2 miles isnt too bad, I kinda recomend everyone hike but it would be a good idea for at least one person to park outside the parking area incase of emergency and we need transport. I dont think they can bother you if you are parked out by the road.

There is still a good chance that I will be there with 2 others. I think that I will chance it and risk it out till the week of to make a site reservation because there is a slim chance we won't make it. If I do make it, I'm definitely up for the night climbing and the hike isn't a problem with me. It would be on friday night right? (the 27th?)

I'll be there early Friday morning through late Saturday night and I reserved a site for Friday night. I just have the one tent so if anyone wants to rent some space and throw up another tent in my site you're welcome to it. PM me and let me know if you need the space.

As of Sunday there were 10 Non-electric, 14 Electric, and 9 Walk-ins still available. If anyone can't get a site at the last minute, let me know and you can renew mine for Saturday night, at least I think I have that option......posession being 9/10ths of the law and all.

I'm up for the night hike as well, just have to remember those batteries.

I'm still workin on it - I need to buy some gear this week. I'll prolly leave chi-town around thursday morning, which gives me all wretched day to drive. Maybe I'll find another adult that wants to go (going solo with my 2 daughters - is the plan).

And Tom, I have a full body harness that is good for climbers up to like 70 or 80 lbs that I'll bring (my 4 year old's and she's not coming). I'm pretty sure my daughter Kali (7 yrs.) is coming and Patrick/pelliott will probably have his girls too so your kids will have some new friends to play with...

Also, if you need misc. camping gear, I've got some extra suff... Let me know and I may be able to let you use some...

The drive from Chicago-Land will probably take in the neigborhood of 9 or 10 hours so, we'll see you Thursday evening at camp if you leave home Thurday morning... I assume this means you're coming for sure??? :D

minnesotatrad, glad you're coming. YOU ARE corRECT sir! We will have a blast. Lots O fun all the way 'round...

Les and Dann - thanks!
As for climbing gear, Paris (my 6 yr old) wears a 13 or size 1 shoe, if you have any of those GREAT - cuz those sizes are pretty tough to get (good deals on at least). She'll hopefully have her harness by then, if not I'll let ya know. We'll have the basic camping stuff, I'm sure I'll miss something though :-)

And yes, as of right now I'm getting stuff together and the planning. I NEED to rent a minivan or suv though, no way in hell am I driving my T-bird (over 160k miles on it); and the poor mustang I don't think has room in the trunk for a sleeping back. And yeah, my plan is to leave thursday morning.

Is it a HUGE problem if you don't have a headlamp?? If so, where can I get one?

We are driving down on Friday afternoon/evening and staying til Sunday morning. I just found out my "little" brother (he's got about 8 inches on me) is thinking of coming which is super awesome! I am totally counting down the days.....I think I might be a little rusty though since I have had to stay away due to twisting my ankle a little.

Jetman Jake...are you the Jake I know? If so, we have a campsite for you Friday and Saturday if you are interested. (I assumed you and Andy could share a tent?)

Jackie--If I can remember, I'll toss an extra headlamp in my gear pile and I think you could borrow someone else's if I somehow forget. I would still bring a flashlight as it sounds like we're in for a night hike at some point.

Hey everybody. The time is near, and i have all my gear.. well a lot of it anyways.. this is a post to anyone that is coming that hasn't gotten a site or doesn't have a tent, my girlfriend is not coming along after all so that means i'll have some extra room in my huge tent!! so if anyone needs a place to shack up for the trip I'll have plenty of extra room. I'll warn anyone who might be interested I do snore, but only a little, and not very loudly. so drop me a PM or replay, I'd be more that happy to share some room.. To Dann and Les. How's the weather looking for the upcoming weekend?? Also, I'm glad to hear that you two are alright.

WOW!!! This is really shapping up... Looks like we're going to have quite a crowd. Besides everyone posting here, there's maybe 8 or 10 VEers who are coming (supposedly) who aren't technically RC.commers.

corpse, glad to hear you're pretty much all set! It'll be good to climb with you again and meet your kids. And, we'll be able to show you a lot more about anchors and gear than we were able to at JTree.

superfly, no it's not a huge deal if you don't have a headlamp... You can probably borrow someones while you climb. I would definately bring at least a flashlight though. And if you do want to buy one, you can get inexpensive models at REI or Galyans and probably even at Target or Wal-Mart for between $15 and $20. I would say don't bother with the $5 or $8 dollar models as they will break before you get them fully out of the packaging.

And gymclimbfreak, where on earth have you been??? I know you ain't been to the gym 'cus the regular summer gym bums were askin' me if I'd seen you and I know you ain't been out with us...
In reply to:
so if anyone needs a place to shack up for the trip I'll have plenty of extra room
...and you might want to be careful how you use that phrase... People might start to think the wrong things   DOH!

You ask about the weather? We don't CARE about the weather... It's gonna do what it's gonna do and there ain't nuthin' I can do about it. I'm going on a long weekend camping and climbing and if I have to climb in the shade 'cus its HOT, well then that's what I'll do! 8) Huh! Weather! I'm climbin'!

Start fillin' yer lists and pillin' and packin' yer gear people, the 2nd Annual RC.com Minnesota Gathering starts in 5 DAYS!!!

Hey Dann. Well It's true, I haven't been at VE much in the past few weeks. I was out east, and then I had some problems, so I wasn't able to make it. But last monday I made it out there to climb with J_Mag. Well Let me rephrase that. If someone needs a place to throw their gear and catch some shut eye, my tent has extra room available, I suppose you're right about that phrase. If my girlfriend saw that she might start to wodner too. Well I look forward to seeing everyone friday. If anyone is leaving friday morning and wants to get a convoy going let me know, I'll make sure hta back door is closed so smokey don't catch us 8)

see you all next weekend.

Tim
