Well, I've spent the last 9 months or so researching every dusty forgotten thread I could find on trad gear here on RC.com. I've been planning on getting some trad gear for awhile, and after weighing the billion and a half opions here, I bought my "starter" rack. 1 set 1-10 DMM Walnuts 30 racking biners, Trango Superflys 10 WC Heliums 10 Omega JC Wiregates 8 24" alpine draws, (Superflys & Heliums w/8mm Mammut runners) 2 48" alpine draws, (Superflys & Heliums w/8mm Mammut runners) BD C4's, .4, 2x.5, 2x.75, 2x1, 2x2, 3, 4, 5, 6 CCH Aliens 2 green, 2 yellow, 1 grey, 1 red tricams .5, 1 1 misty cadillac harness 1 camp silver star helmet 1 HB dyneema helmet 1 metolius double D gear sling 2 Webolettes 2 60M 8.6mm bluewater excellence ropes Heres a pic of the majority of the stuff. Its still all shiney, I'll have to remedy that quickly. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...?Detailed=49128 alt= So thanks all you gearheads for letting me lurk the boards and make what I feel were good gear choices! You guys rock. Climb on! [Edited to show more recent picture, and to correctly name the color yellow!]

Holy S--T! You bought all of that at one time? It looks like someone has already stolen one of your yellow C4s. Better go get a couple more.

You are a prime example of the quality of information one can obtain from the search tool. All in all, I'd say that's a mighty fine stash of gear. Can we pin this thread up in the beginner / general / trad forums so that we don't get anymore "I want to buy trad gear" threads? You clearly did some extensive research, and made great decisions with the gear you purchased (except you may not need the larger cams, but that's a little nitpicky, isn't it?) Kudos to you!

That's not a friggin' starter rack, that the whole enchilada! You even bought the off-width boat anchor! Have fun banging it up. By the way, want to adopt any 32 year old kids?

I've still go my standby AtC and 10.3 Sterling rope for belay. I haven't decided yet what route to take for belaying with the new doubles. I'll probably get an ATC XP to keep it simple, and maybe a TRE Sirius if can justify the cost. The big cams were bought with a couple offwidths in mind. In fact I got the 4-6 set as blems at a discount. The number 6 was basically free this way, so I bit.

Ha! Man... I can afford to buy gear once a year. Thank the Lord for tax returns. You know what I'm sayin?? If I don't have all I need now, I'm not going to get it till next year! My rack for the previous year consisted of 6 omega dirtbag draws, a singingrock harness, a chalkbag that was abandoned at the local gym, an ATC and Locker I found left at the crag, and a rope I found on sale.

Mmmmm gear, my favorite! Why so many loose wiregates and no lockers? Does it bother anyone else that they changed the size designations for the new camelots? Now you have to refer to them by color.... anna (stop me, before I shop again)

Very nice. Just about the same as what I'll be buying with exception to the Camalots. Valygirl makes a good point about lockers. I know this is just you new stuff, but do you have more lockers?

I do have some old lockers. I've got 7 omega D's, and they're pretty serviceable. I would like to get a few of these though  http://www.rockclimbing.com/gear/product.php?p=1617 Light as a BD airlock, autolocks, and notchless. I've also got an Omega Jake autolocker for the power point, so that'll have to do. I'm going to Sams throne this weekend to start breaking in of the new stuff. And, by golly, I'm going to find a place to actually place that #6 Cam. I couldn't believe how big that thing was when it showed up! I need to take pictures of a little mod I made to the #5 and #6. It basically keeps them fully retracted on the rack, but can be undone with one finger to place them. They were just too bloody big fully open.

The only recommendations I would make are: * Trade the multi-loop gear sling for the single loop or better yet get the Metolius "Big Wall" gear sling with the pouch - again, get the single loop version * Get some hybrid Aliens whenever you see them available anywhere * Get 4-5 locking biners (I like Petzl's) * Make any additional biners Petzl Spirits

You have the Cadillac, why do you need a gear sling? Rack on that bad boy! That's why I got the Caddy, so I could rack on my harness. Get some nice lockers too.

In reply to: CCH Aliens 2 green, 2 blue, 1 grey, 1 red Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the pic it looks like: 2 green, 2 yellow, 1 grey, 1 red (I thought it was a bit odd that you left out the yellow in the list.)
