I read a while ago that he died doing one of his jumps and one of his knots failed while jumping, so im not positive if that is the reason of death, but a quick google search will surely get youthe answer im sure.

Yosemite Dude!! The book you need is "The Fall of Phantom Lord". Details his development in around Lake Tahoe and how he got into Free Falling. Jumping off of high towers tethered to a safety dynamic line. Problem was his safety line broke and he plummeted to his death off of (if memory serves) Washington Column.

Thanx. I just borrowed this video from a friend of mine. That guy had no fear. He climbed things like 350 feet in the air without a rope. He was always doing something that would make you think and go "whoa is he actually doing what I think he's doing?" Talk about no fear.

Warning: RANT and a bit off topic No fear eh? How about: - No responsibility: left a daughter behind. Come on, when one becomes a parent, priorities should change a bit. We need a license to go fishing, but to be a parent? Seesh. Excellent climber, but dismal parent in my book. Rant off.

Day he died he set up his rope system the day before, it rained and soaked his line. He still jumped and the additional weight of the soaked line decked him out. If memory serves. The line might have also snapped due to the weight but I can't attest to it's validity.

That guy was a visionary in the realm of crazy shit. It seemed that with those types of risks, death is about 100% certain.

Yeah lots of " I think" and "I heard" One of those "Similar link" below has a post from someone who knows the true story first hand. I suggest research and dismiss the yahoos with their theories.

I didn't know he had a kid. I really didn't know anything about him except the climbs he did in that video. I'll have to read about him.

This topic SPAWNS misinformation Read the Outside Article Short Short Ver. Jumped off of Leaning Tower Changed launch point to an untested one Jump caused main rope to cross retrieval line Main and Retrieval lines rubbed as they became taught causing a rope on rope "rubbing" failure. Essentially one ran on the other and sawed through. Rope was in good shape otherwise (tested on the dl by someone at BD) Bottom line - pilot error (by the best in the biz at this) caused incorrect equipment loading resulting in its failure.

Thanks for the short info. Helped me so I don't have to read so much. And I hope that's correct info so I don't have to search through all the trash trying to find the real story instead of everything that everyone can possibly make up.

In reply to: Thanks for the short info. Helped me so I don't have to read so much. And I hope that's correct info so I don't have to search through all the trash trying to find the real story instead of everything that everyone can possibly make up. Nope - Re-read it to make sure. Only thing the Outside article doesn't get into is the failure details. The article talks about a knot failing. I think the details are a knot caught on the other lines and slid along, causing the sawing action at the knot. I did a lot of searching on this because I was tired of misinfo. The outside article is all you need read really - pretty darn accurate.

This says so much! Osman, at age 35, was caught in the hard choice between the nerve it takes to keep going higher, faster, closer to the invisible line between life and death and the very different kind of courage it takes to step back from the game, from the adulation, and figure out what you're going to do with the rest of your life. - Outside article. Reading the article, we know he was considering giving up the lifestyle he was famed for. I wonder if he was making his final push to the limit so he could walk away knowing he pushed it closer than anyone ever thought possible. It is scary to know he saw the writing on the wall and continued forward. So sad, but he died doing what he loved, wish he could have walked away from just one more.

Here's a quote from Dan Osman in Masters of Stone 5: "When this is all over, I'm really looking forward to spending time with my daughter and family...and basically parking on the couch for awhile, because I've been going at mach speed for quite awhile now and I think it's just a matter of time maybe before things start to catch up with you...and I've got this really hardcore group of guardian angels that need a free-paid vacation."
