Well, here's my first post. One a week right? Help me improve! (Of course I'll return the favor. . .)

Welcome!

You could improve it by simply waiting, or asking, for the climber to stick their head out a bit. Maybe even get the climber to lean out from the cliff.

when youre out there shooting, try and analyze what are the important elements thatll be in this picture... you got that moon, you have the guy climbing, and you have two complimentary colors hitting at a diagonal angle from your point of view.

so after you analyze whats important you now have to compose those elements so that each one is accentuated...

after toying around in photoshop this is close to the composition that i personally would have used...

seems like you just bumped up the contrast a little. I have to admit, the photo I posted was not photoshopped at all, but I see what your saying. Thanks!

He did more than just mess w/ the contrast & brightness, he cropped it. That's the important part. It frames the shot much better, and cuts out the off-balance, out of focus dead weight.

i would rotate a bit CW before cropping, and put a bit more rock and less sky than knol.

hint: bump contrast a bit, and try a black border.
