You use the cable release to press the shutter button. If your camera has a timer, it should activate from the cable release, same as if you pressed the shutter directly. Then again, that's the way my camera works. It's a Canon EOS A2e.

In response to: "so theres no like a cable release with a built in timer?" If I understand what you're asking, it depends on the camera you are using. Most SLRs that have a self-timer also have a cable release socket. If that is the case, then usually you can set the self-timer and activate it with the cable release. I'm not sure why you would need to do this though, unless you were using the really long, air-powered cable release from up on the rock and you wanted time to get it out of the shot. As I mentioned before, some cameras have a little tiny WIRELESS remote that gives you a couple of seconds before the camera shoots. That's probably the best way to get shots from the ground. Dan

the reason i azsked about a cable relese/external timer is because the standard timer is way to short (few seconds) i was hoping that there was somthig that would act like a cable relese with built in adjustable timer so i could set it and it could press the button for me. joe

Joe, kates got a cable release for her camera, about half a meter long. You could somehow make a long one, hook it up to a timer, press the trigger, giving you long enough to drop it and pose!!

> is there somthing like a cable release or > somthing with a variable timer built in? There is. Try: http://www.mcbaincamera.com/SLR/pentax/accTS110.htm The price is not really appealing though :-(. Best wishes, Rado
