I'm with okieterry, Lake Lawtonka is the only place I stay, but then I'm a drinker. Build a fire, toss back some cold ones, and relieve those aching muscles. Bring mosquito repellent as they are a little thick this time of year, especially near the water.

Oh Man, Dave Mutz and Terry Andrews? What's up, guys? It's Matt Komatsu (used to climb @ Quartz all the time...lived in Hell/Altus) Terry, I never met you but I climbed with Russel, and ran across you on the WMCC board. Hey, Dave, when are you guys gonna make it down to E Rock again?

Hi Matt! I don't know when I will get the chance to come back to E-rock, but we sure had fun on Fear of Flying. That was such an asthetic, clean piece of granite! Are you going to come up for our Quartz Fall Gathering? However, I don't know the dates yet. Man I gotta log off. It is quitting time!! I'll check this post tomorrow. C-YA!!

Dude, FOF rocks. It's all about tipped-out #5s, baybee! Did you try Shrike (12) or Texas Crude (10b) next door? Holler at the old crew for me, will ya? And tell Stickman to email me or get on this site before the OK DOT bans it for him!

I guess I've found a new home to scurry to when the boss isn't looking! Matt (or is mr. flat tail or something like that), I've heard a lot about you and we have definitely got to hook up for some climbing. There is so much to do!! Dave, remember that night last summer when the mosquitos drove us crazy!!! I know you were thinking about that when you wrote your post. THats a good point though. Always bring a tent at Lake Lawtonka!!! Do not bring a bivy bag!!!!

I had to run over to the forum topic on breast size for awhile and share my favorite boobs and climbing story. The weather in OK has been fine. Not too bad. I climbed in southeast OK for 4 straight weekends in June. I'm going to Yosemite next week for the rest of the month. Come up in August and we'll go play. Unless we're thinking of two different areas, camping on the lake is $25/group or $5/tent. I've only camped there once and wasnt really all that impressed. I'm not sure what the group limitations are, but using the 'group area' does require a reservation. Just my .02 .. [ This Message was edited by: clymbr_chk on 2002-07-12 06:53 ]

I guess we are talking about Labor Day Weekend aren't we...Besides the 4th of July and Memorial Day its probably the third biggest camping weekend of the year. I suggest that we talk to LETRA and see if it will be available to non-military campers on that weekend. We can also check on the access stuff (Ft. Sill gates and searches).

Indie: We didn't climb Shrike or Texas Crude and in all honesty, Russell led F.O.F. He did a perfect onsite! I barely managed to 2nd his ascent without coming off. My forearms were pumped to the max! Also, I just got off the phone with Russell. He said he will try to contact you through the WMCC site. He posts there quite a bit but he usually uses an alias. Okieterry: You are darn right I remember the mosquitos! A bivy bag would be fine any season except the summer. But for those heading to Lake Lawtonka, bring a tent. Also, most of the time it is not crowded at the primitive area of Lake Lawtonka. It is located at northern most part of the camping grounds. It is a little tough to find but you will know when you are there. You will see signs (ponds 1-5). This is where I always stay and it is a great and roomy spot for crowds of climbers.

hey I'm new to climbing but would love to join up with a few of you... some of you guys have already replied to my post that I made earlier. I'm in the army so I'm guessing that there will be some inspections at the gate if they are like the other posts in the states. Anyways, hope to see you guys in about a month and a half.

Sauron, good news is you are probably in the right year (I lost a couple somewhere and thought I was 27 for three years, hate it when that happens ), you were probably looking at July 30-Aug.2 instead of Aug.30-Sept.2. Sept. 2nd is Labor Day (should be lack of Labor Day ) so maybe you can play with us that day as well. Nikegirl, what can I say but !! We are going to learn from the E-Rock gathering and follow their example as how to handle climberchick (climbr_chk) without bloodshed, right? (Someone CLAIMS they will bring the hacky and the boppit and then, accidently forgets.) Has someone been assigned this job, pushfurther? Ya gatta delegate. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and making such a pest of myself with my camera that I will probably be banned from climbing for the rest of my days. Has camping been decided yet LETRA or Latonka? [ This Message was edited by: cyberclimber on 2002-07-24 11:56 ]

handle the chick without bloodshed?? shoot .. if i'm not bleeding, then i'm not climbing hard enough .. someone else get on lead!! also, we *did* have the bop-it at e-rock, courtesy of sauron .. someone must have been hoggin it, though ... */me inspects the ceiling and whistles* ... i'll see if i can find one to bring to the ok gathering ... *sigh* .. i cant find the hacky sack, though .. ... my son will share the skateboard, but not the hacky .. .. someone else will have to be in charge of that one. okay, back to the grindstone before i get busted for procrastinating/playing again. Okay ... more info on LETRA .. the main gates off the hwy close at 10pm; however, there are other access points which will remain open 24/7 .. should we choose to stay there, they can send us maps of the 'back roads' to get in. There are no alcohol restrictions; however, glass containers are not allowed. The cost is $20/day to reserve a group site (no limitations on the number of people), *plus* $3/tent/day. (Since we're camping, we wont have to pay the $5 day pass thingie.) Should we choose to "risk it" and not reserve a group site, it's just $3/tent, but we wont necessarily be able to camp together ... it's a first come-first serve basis. For those who cant suffer the heat, they also have small cabins to rent at $35/night (military) or $45/night (civilian). They also have plenty of aquatic toys, including paddleboats, canoes, surf bikes, family cycles, fun yaks, and water mouse .. not to mention the miniature golf game. (All of these are at separate and additional charges .. I can post em if ya want em.) She did mention that Labor Day weekend starts booking quickly around the beginning of August, so we should probably decide soon and get everything booked. Hope this helps and I'm really going back to work this time ...
