I was climbing at Coopers Tuesday, and a lot of the rock was wet with condensation, especially on shady cracks. Not a problem if it was in the sun, but with the temp near 90, who wants that?

Also talked to a local who said the proposal to add bolts to allow top ropeing of popular climbs may be coming soon. A proposal is being sent to the state park, and hopefully it will be smooth sailing.

It would stop the abuse of the trees, and save a lot of time, especially onsome of the harder ones to set up. This is a good thing, and I hope there's a consensus among climbers on this.

I would like to see bolts at Coopers. Clip a couple quickdraws, clip the rope and be done. Titanium Digit and Copenhagen are especially tricky to set up. The trees have suffered enough!

I went to the mill wednesday after work (around 5:30pm). It was a little slimy, but fairly typical of the area. climbing was still good but we started to get some drizzle a little before 8pm so we ducked out. I'll be going to Kralick on sunday, but I know the Exkursion (http://www.exkursion.com) class is going to be there. I've climbed in and with the class before so it's no big deal... Hopefully Matt (Unconquerable), and another friend of mine will be joining me. I'll get to show him a little bit of the area :)

I'm leaving shortly for logtown quarry in lisbon, ohio. Cpl easy tr's and short bolted climbs from 5.6 to 5.12. Google it for directions. If any of you burgh ppl want to climb some of us will be there all day. It's less than 1 1/2 hrs from the burgh.

Logtown was nice. Had a great day. Going to the mill tomorrow. There will be a bunch of pburgh ppl there.

I went climbing at Kralick on the 17th with Matt (Unconquerable). It was a pretty nice day, I think I scared the hell out of him on the drive in (and out for that matter)

I also went on sunday. The Exkursion class was there and I got to tie in to a few of their ropes. It was also a very nice day, but no scaring anybody :( I'm going back out to Kralick on Saturday (6/25) to learn some protection placement. I'm beat. Time to do some work.

How is summer climbing going for everyone? This is defintely peak season. Being outside, breathing fresh air and working the body is the very best therapy.

Linden, I'd like to hit Kralick with you sometime soon. Heading for the New for two days, and it will undoubtablybe muy fantastico.

Good partners make all the difference in the world, which is why we're all here trying to find each other. We really should pick a time and place to get together, just to break the ice. There's no telling where it could go.

Charly has been very good about posting his plans, and I'll try to do better in the future.

Hey all,

My summer is about ready to start. I've missed the early climbing season (been in Pakistan since April 2 will be home July 1) and am dying to climb something. If any one is going out day climbing over the July 4th weekend, post up I'd like to join ya. I need to get back in shape.

Doyle, you posted that you climbed in Yosemite...I'd like to talk about your trip. I'm going there late August.

Bill good luck in Co. Climb safe and take a lot of pictures.

Cheers! I can't wait to see Western PA again!

Is anyone looking for a partner for this saturday, the 25th? Me and my cousin are looking to go, and I have never been outdoor climbing, just in gyms, and she is home from college and doens't have her ropes and overything with her. We are in the Pittsburgh area and do have our own transportation.

last weekend a friend of mine went camping near the waterfall at
Krahlick. he left his car parked off to the side of the road where it
wouldn't be in the way. sometime during the night someone broke into
his car, stole his cds, ripped off his wing and windshield wipers,
then rammed the car 3 or 4 times pushing it into the woods and pinning
it against a tree ($10,000+ damage). the state trooper
that wrote his accident report said that there was a church group
camping there 2 weeks ago that had nine cars that were totaled in the
same way. over the last 2 months there have been 15 cars
damaged/totaled. so if you are going to be climbing/camping in that
area watch out for the crazy rednecks of Krahlick. the police recommend not spending the night there for a while

I am truly sorry to hear this, but glad it's being brought out into the open. I had not heard of anyone's car being messed there with in years, but perhaps I just haven't gotten the real story.

I've never had a problem just parking on top during the day, but I invite others to mention this or other problems they've had with their cars when climbing.

What a shameful thing to show climbers from other states.

Met the Intimidator at 6:30 and we cruised in 3 hours. Almost no one there on a Thursday. Went up Ecstasy, 3rd classing up the 5.0 stuff, and did it as one pitch using a 73 meter rope. Got pretty hot & sweaty.

Rapped The Burn, then climbed it. Sweet climb.

Really wanted to avoid the sun, so we did the first pitch of Theis Direct, then the last two pitches of Pleasant Overhangs. Good deep shade, but it was so hot on the summit, and being 3:30, we rapped, descended and cooled off in the crick while the sirens sang so sweetly.

Drove home through heavy thunderstorms and was home by eight.

Despite his moniker, the Intimidator is great company, which made the driving very nice indeed. Life is so good. La Vie C'est Bon!

jlc, tell me a bit about you. Your profile is kinda empty. I know some folks in da burgh where you should be able to learn trad. I believe the best way to learn multipitch trad is to learn the basics from someone who knows and then follow them learning as you go.

Welcome home Dave!!! I don't know how or this site doesn't do the big letters, but welcome home anyhow. I was going to call today but I just got home last night and my stuff still isn't put away. I got the emails, bills, and mail but still have some unpacking to do. Gotta get ready for seneca this weekend.

sorry about that. I put a short write-up on me so if you're curious, click away. I've taken a placing pro class with exkursion, but as you say, I'd think the best way to pick it up is to follow up. Thanks.

Also I'm still looking at going out this weekend probably to the mill. PM for my # if interested... hope everyone had a good 4th

As promised, a short trip report of 2 days at the New.

Drove down to meet Scott early July 5th, and went through some heavy rain. Not auspicious. More rain driving south, so we hung at the Bridge Buttress instead of ranging farther afield.

Top roped everything, and just moved the rope from cold shuts to cold shuts; an easy way to climb yourself into oblivion. It was hot and humid, so the clouds were welcome. Started on Happy Head, 5.8 with a genuine chimney, then Promised 5.10b. Got our ass kicked on Lollipop, a 5.7 offwidth. We could not move up on it!

Finished the day doing Gemini right 5.10a and Gemini left, 5.10c. Hard hard hard, but absolutely awesome. We were cooked and glad to call it a day.

Hiked down after dinner to explore Fern Buttress, but it was so hot, sweaty and buggy we split. Then a 50 MPH wind came through and the rain. I crashed early and slept 10 blissful hours in my tent. Scott said it rained a couple times but I was unaware.

Today we were up and on the Endless Loop trail by 8:30. Went down the Fern Point ladder, turned left and walked a good ways, then Scott led Total E Clips, 5.8 and we toproped the unnamed 5.10a slab climb to the right. We continued on to the lovely Finial Point with two routes; Thought Crime, 5.7, and Stroke Victim, 5.8. Tasty.

It was hot and humid, and the holds all felt kind of slimy, so we were ready to boogaloo. We climbed out the Honeymoon Ladders, and Scott asked if I'd like to climb Crescent Moon, 5.7 ****. I've been eyeing it, so he dropped a rope down, and I went back down the ladders and tied in. It was hard for a 7, and took some thought to find the moves. It was a lot of work, but of course I'm very happy to have done it.

We streaked out the 2 1/2 miles, were on the road by 3, in Fairmont by 5, and I was home by 6;30, hardly even missed by the family.

This is living, brothers and sisters
