I get to give more money to "The Man". My tennies are cutting it. I got zero grip today. Most embarrassing was a pro was there telling me what to do, not that i am complaining, but it was more embarassassing. Well time to get climbing shoes. By the way I didn't get the stranded quickdraw, i fell to the other side. Oops. Oh well.

I saw that 5.10 was/is making some climbing shoes that look like tennis shoes. Sounds like that would fully address your needs Behold.

I don't think you want extreme shoes, the only way to get extreme looking shoes is to get extreme shoes, if you're just starting out you'll just tear them to shreds which really isn't worth the money you pay. what you should get are shoes from a company called "One sport", they're made in europe and are cheap compared to most shoes (under 70 bucks), and much better looking than most as well! send a private message to the user orestes1724, she has some of these shoes (I can't remember the model) and says they are great, some of them have gotten bad reviews but the model she has is a good one. again, no expensive shoes because it won't be worth it, wait till you get your technique down before going for the more extreme shoes. so ... you must be planning on looking kool and hanging around climbing areas bothering those who are there to enjoy the sport or do you plan on hanging at the mall? Sounds like the mall is the place you 'shine'!

no you don't. it's not about looking good. it's about sending routes or problems you couldn't, and finding new ones you can't. it's about pushing your body to a limits you didn't know where there, and creating new, broader boundaries for your self. it's about challenging your mind as well, and if only for a while, forgetting about the bullshit down on the ground, like school, work, PEER PREASSURE (ie, to look cool). i can't make any judgements about you, but that type of comment is typical of a person who has not matured as a climber. i'm not claiming i have completely, but let's be serious...who really thinks climbing shoes are "the latest look"? who gives a rat's ass what the shoe looks like...bring your fancy tennis shoes to the crag and wear them between climbs. no matter what shoe you climb in, it's eventually going to get wrecked anyway. /rant [ This Message was edited by: pir8penguin on 2002-07-22 19:27 ]
