On Thursday September first, goofyc (Peggy) a climber and member of the rc.com community was involved in a four vehicle accident while on her way to work. Apparently, a driver hauling a 24 foot flat bed trailer crossed the center line of a four lane road and collided with three other vehicles. Although the flat bed driver was not injured in the accident one of the other drivers received a few bruises as another died at the scene. Peggy suffered a broken leg and hip with unknown internal injuries. Her new Dodge Neon was totaled. Peggy has been in intensive care since the accident and is scheduled for surgery Tuesday the 6th. Tracy (Peggy's best friend) informed me of the accident and has been keeping me up to date on her progress. According to the doctors, Peggy should not be on this earth today. The surgery is to insert metal plates and pins in her hip and leg to try and hold them together. If all goes according to plan, Peggy is looking at a hospital stay of three to six weeks and remaining in a wheel chair for six months to a year with 24 hour care and extensive physical therapy. Peggy is a single parent who has successfully raised her two boys on her own for many years. Her oldest son has enlisted in the Army and is currently in Fort Knox . He has always been a great help to his mother in taking care of his younger brother who suffers from Fragile-X or Williams Syndrome. He can be a handful even for a group of healthy adults. I have known Peggy for about 20 years, 8 of those romantically. She was the greatest love of my life, is a wonderful woman, an outstanding mother and a terrific partner who deserves better than a year climbing in and out of a wheel chair as opposed to climbing a rock face. I am not much of a religious man. I haven't been to church or prayed in years. I don’t know if I much believe in the power of prayer but my beliefs are irrelevant right now. God is a big part of Peggy’s life, thus the reason for this post. I am asking all rc.com members to pray for Peggy. Pray for a successful surgery. Pray for a quick and full recovery. Pray for her parents who have planned on basically moving in with her to assist her in the daily chores of living we all take for granted every day. Pray for her 18 year old son stationed in Kentucky who is under even more physiological stress than normal basic training can provide with the injuries to his mother. Just pray. I know I am. Latter this week I am going to visit Peggy in the hospital. Being she will be unable to log on line, I’ll print this post and your responses in hopes it will warm her heart and bring a smile to her face. Having never been in such a situation, I can’t even begin to phantom what she is facing. But is has got to suck.

Outstanding people will always pull through hardships no matter what the odds may be and surely this is no exception. My prayer goes out so that she might climb through this crux in her life so that she might still have many pitches in her life in the company of her loved ones.

Not knowing anything beyond what was written in your post, my heart aches for her family. As far as I am concerned, Peggy and her family are being prayed for . . . healing is coming . . .

Try to stay positive and always look at the brighter side of things. I'm sure the injuries will be difficult to recover from, but never give in to the thought that you can't recover. A strong will, friends & family and her faith will definately help see Peggy through the trouble and back on the road to recovery. I'll keep Peggy, her family and Craig in my thoughts.

For those who have PMed me on how Peggy's surgery went, I am unable to answer because the surgery hasn't "went" quite yet. Currently she is still under the knife. I won't know anything until latter tonight or late tomorrow. I'll post here the results when I have more information. By the way, thanks for the prayers and kind replies. Se will be so appreciative.

Craig: My prayers are with Peggy and for the physicians and medical staff watching over her care. Additionally, I'll be praying for you and Peggy's family. Tell her son to hang in there at Fort Knox. I'm sure all of you are very proud of him. I salute your sincere and heart felt post! God Bless Fred Thomas

I planned on visiting Peggy today but was told she is in so much pain that she is constantially under medicatioin that keeps her asleep. The surgery went as expected as there were no unknown complicationis. Her broke leg requires nothing more than a cast but they can't put one on due to the slits the doctors are keeping on both sides of the leg to allow fluid to flow out. This is done to keep the swelling down and prevents her from loosing her foot. A plate (maby a few) was inserted in her hip with numerous screws used to hold the hip bone pieces onto the plate. I was told this is perminate and will be in her body for the rest of her life. She was expected to transfer to a regular hospital room today but instead they are keeping her in an ICU room for a while which sucks because the visitation hours are so restrictive. I will visit her Fraiday though and I'll be sure and take a printed copy of this post which will surley lift her spirits. I greately appriciate all who are keeping Peggy in their prayers.
