I think I'll be there Saturday morning with whomever I can scrounge up. The crowds should be picking up slowly, since the daytime temps are finally below 90! (the humidity will still be up there, though)

Prepare to be amazed, that place is awesome. Don't burn out on your first day, it's easy to draw blood from your fingertips after just a few hours :D

I heard that the crowds will be limmited, because most of the climbers will be headed to Hound ears for the Tripple Crown.... Yeah, i will try my best to not burn myself on the first day, but you know... you can't control that when your hands are sweating just by thinking about all that rock!

well see ya there

Gator, I just moved back down to Vero Beach, and will prolly start climbing at On The Edge again soon. I wont be up there this weekend, but anytime you guys want to go up to horse pens or rocktown for a weekend keep me in mind. I am dying to get back up there.

Hey,

I want to take a group upto HP40 the weekend of Nov. 4&5. Does anyone know if it will be busy or not? It'll be a group of about 20-25 ppl, most beginners. Also, do you know what rocks would be good for beginners with little equipment? Thanks for the info.

Uh-oh.

That's the weekend of the Triple Crown competition. There will be hundreds of people there, and nobody's getting in without ponying up $50 as a spectator. This is the worst possible (and most expensive) weekend all year to bring beginners. Reschedule ASAP if you can!

Otherwise, you'd be better off taking them to the Boulderfields in B'ham instead.

Ditto what keinangst wrote.

for future reference, HP40 is a bouldering destination. all that's needed is a crash pad and climbing shoes. chalk could help and spotters are nice, but that's about it.

as for beginners, check out the Ten Pins area. facing the boulders from the main building, they're the cluster of boulders to the left.
