My podcast - A Life of Play - comes out each week on Wednesday and I'm doing the topic of Rock Climbing this week. I have already interviewed a local climber (I'm near Boston), but the podcast is international and want someone from outside the northeast to interview. The discussion would take place via iChat (AOL or any IM with audio) or via Skype. Let me know ASAP if you're interested. Questions won't be hard and will pretty much cover: how does a newbie get involved, what equipment is essential, what mindset is necessary, what's the community like, etc. Thanks, Jeff http://www.alifeofplay.com http://www.bowlofcheese.com Skype: jeffcutler AIM: spideysub

Thanks to Zavi ... boondock_saint ... for spending 20 minutes with me the other day and giving me a great deal of rock climbing info for my podcast. If you have info to add or comments about the image of rock climbing in non-climbers' eyes, visit the site and leave a comment on the show notes. Show notes are at: http://www.alifeofplay.com and the Podcast is A Life of Play - fun things to do in your free time. later, Jeff http://www.alifeofplay.com http://www.bowlofcheese.com

So, BS will be the rock climbing representative for your podcast? Great. Make sure you ask him about his opinions on women and the president.

... and when I said the climbing community is pretty laid back and welcoming I meant everyone except WJCA. :) just kidding. Like he said, you guys should leave comments and add whatever I forgot to add! I don't think I'm the most experienced climber here by any means (ha!) but I did start recently enough to be able to relate to new climbers. I see a lot of hardcore guys at my gym who can't even begin to relate to someone who's just starting out.

Open discourse is what we need. Now, please enlighten me about Zavi's odd or extreme views  And then go listen to him as we chat for 20 minutes about climbing and not about women in their place or gov't adjustments. Jeff http://www.alifeofplay.com http://www.bowlofcheese.com

Let me make this very explicit. Carefully look over all of the posters in the Community Forum, tabulate all of their views (political and otherwise), and carefully choose someone who has never posted here.

In reply to: Let me make this very explicit. Carefully look over all of the posters in the Community Forum, tabulate all of their views (political and otherwise), and carefully choose someone who has never posted here. Well, you have 76 posts in a year and boondock has 1700. I figured he was active and had a handle on the sport. Go listen yourself and find out. One more listener isn't going to increase my ad revenue to retirement level. And if he missed the mark, I'd like to correct it for people who don't know anything about climbing - including me. I think that I was misunderstood. By here I meant the Community in general. This was meant as a good natured unsolicited attack in the general spirit of the Community.

well that certainly is a good point, the best rock climber you could interview probably never came to this website because he doesn't even own a computer and lives the life of a vagabond moving from crag to crag and does nothing but climbing. That however would make the chances of doing an interview with him pretty slim. Jeff made a post. I replied to his post. I never said I was the most experienced climber. Quit being so petty. He is trying to give people a glimpse of what rock climbing is about and he got some of my thoughts on it, which inevitably will vary from YOURS. You should add whatever you think is important to know, as I am sure I didn't cover half of what I know and 0.1% of what there is to know.

Then I'm waiting for the rest of you to head on over to the podcast, listen to it, then critique the crap out of it. Then I'll take your notes, add them to the show notes and plan to do an "Advanced Climbing" episode of A Life of Play later this year. And to come to Zavi's defense, do you think George Bush knew the first thing about being a politician before he signed up for the Dyslexic Leaders Forums? Personally, I feel Curt, DirtInEye or BobD1953 would have been the best possible interviews... Oh, and maybe even Dr Piton for comedic value!

Just one thing Jeff ... don't confuse the climbing community with rockclimbing.com/community the climbing community is way cooler than this. this forum is a bunch of whiny babies who like to complain about everything. mostly I think they are just bitter because they are not out there climbing. Same goes for me I suppose, I'm here because I'm tied up though aside from the occasional remark, I am pretty civil. Yeah Curt probably would have been a great person to interview. He's been climber longer than I've been alive. I didn't see curt respond to that post though ... or anyone else until now. So quit yer bitching ....

Hey, Zavi: I've gotten a great response for episode 0005 of A Life of Play, so I'm going to do an ADVANCED CLIMBING episode in August. If you think Curt or someone else would be good for this, let's line it up. Send whomever you think would be perfect to http://www.alifeofplay.com and have them comment in the show notes or send me an email at alifeofplay@gmail.com with their contact info. Thanks again! Sweet man, I'm glad you got good responses. Yeah, Curt is the rock climbing equivalent of father time though he always seems to be a on Scotch drinking binge ... I'm sure he'll be sober by August though  Rufusandcompany is also a very well versed speaker/writer, he would make for a great interview Dirtineye is a bit of a trad elitist so you could direct all those questions (no sport-climbing question) at him

I'd love to get in on this. I just got into podcasts and really liked downloading them and listening at the dreary job. And I know a little bit about what makes an interview entertaining. PM me your questions and I can prepare some good answers. I take it this will be a phone interview? How are you capturing the phone audio then? I'd like to revisit my amateur reporter days if only in my mind.

Well, the guy Jeff here left out that he is only interested in interviewing people who are computer geeks basically, ie. you have iChat or Skype. That little detail would have been worthwhile to know before hand. Anyone even use Skype yet? I just heard about it recently.
